It would seem that letters
that the current Pope wrote back in 2003 have recently surfaced condemning the Harry Potter books. The letters from Pope Benedict were written to German author Gabriele Kuby, who has written a book called Harry Potter - Good or Evil.
It had been widely
reported that the Vatican had approved the Harry Potter books back in 2003. A statement
from Fr. Peter Fleetwood stated that the books helped children “to see the difference between good and evil” and was reported as official approval by the Vatican even though it was his personal opinion given during a press conference to discuss the appeal of New Age religions and practices and the Catholic Church.
Also thanks to The Leaky Cauldron for pointing out that today’s radio address from the Vatican addressed this issue by stating that the remarks by the Pope and the Vatican had been mininterpreted:

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

So much controversy. I can't believe all this happened because of one innocent book. How can a book diminish a religion that has been around for more than 2000 years. Come on!

Geez I can't belive that. What's wrong with this world? I cannot see any possible way Harry Potter could be called evil. If it's because magic is used, that's stupid because it's a fictional book, and labled as one. No kids actually believe that a Hogwarts exists and if they do, it's not the fault of the books, it's proably some reality disorder they h ave from watching too much T.V.

Think for yourself. If you let anyone and everyone do your thinking for you, how sorry indeed! See how this was misquoted? Who do you believe? Believe and trust in your own discernment. seriously people... you gotta ask yourself why anyone would spend so much time and ink on such a trivial matter. Read the books yourself. Form your OWN opinion. Frankly, I'd rather wonder why the Pope didn't have anything better to do than read Harry Potter. Or maybe he'd be a lot cooler if he did

Well, our current Pope was a member of Hitler's Youth, so I'm not quite sure I trust his judgement.

Why does the Pope's opinion matter? We're are all free independent people capable of making a decision about whether or not to read any book. At the end of the day we know Potter rocks and it's OUR opinions that have made the Potter phenomenom what it is.
