Last month we told you
all about a Canadian folk group, The Wyrd Sisters, who were suing Warner Brothers and the group who will be playing the band during the Yule Ball scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It would now seem that they have secured
a November 4th court day to apply for an injunction barring distribution of the film in Canada.
The lawsuit against Warner Bros., Jarvis Cocker from Pulp and Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway of Radiohead alleges that the group in the film appears under their groups name but according to Warner Bros. there is no mention of the group’s name in the movie.
According to Warner Bros. spokesperson, Scott Rowe:
There is absolutely no name . . . for the band that is playing. They are never identified by name. We have (also) submitted sworn affidavits to the court, stating that the name Wyrd Sisters is not being used either in the film or on its soundtrack.
Warner Bros. even flew to Canada to show a copy of the movie to prove that the name Wyrd Sisters was not mentioned.
As soon as we hear more on this matter we will let you know, especially for our Canadian Harry Potter fans.

Boy am I glad that I don't live in Canada...Sometimes I wish I did because their politics are a hell of a lot better than the US but I don't think I'd be able to handle not seeing GoF if the Wyrd Sisters won....I'm that big of a fan

To tell you the truth I was hopeing to see the name of the band in the movie, a bit disapointing, and it is almost your fault entirley!!! Sorry, had to get that out! I haven't really understood this whole thing anyways. The movies are based upon the book, which was written in England quite a few years ago, and the name in the book is the Weird sisters, different name. tHis is just stupid.

The band is being ridiculous! If they read GoF, they would know that the spelling of the group is "Weird Sisters" and not "Wyrd Sisters!"
As Napoleon Dynamite would say, "IDIOT!"

Oh gosh! I said this last time the story was posted: that is crazy. Why do people have to such the fun out of it all. It's just a name! I personally would have no problem if my name appeared in HP...no problems what-so-ever... :-)

Those people are pathetic. May they go to hell if they ever succeed in blocking the film here in Canada (but they most likely won't).

How greedy and ridiculous can you get?!?!?!!! Nobody heard of them until this bs lawsuit anyways. I hope that no one gives them any business because of this. I hate it when people are so false, greedy and lie to any degree to get something they DON'T deserve.

Its all just a big publicity stunt by this band- I had never heard of them before this, and I have no interest in them now. JK came up with the band the Weird Sisters, (not "Wyrd", which is weird) and especially if they are never called by name in the film, this case is absolutley pointless.

Actually as there is no merit to their suit seeing as the band name is not mentioned anywhere in the film or soundtrack, aren't there penalties for filing something where there's a false claim?

This is the stupidest thing ever. Obviously, WB is basing the band from the book, not some random, unknown band in Canada who are desperate for attention. Why didn't they bring this up earlier when the 4th book came out? What next? Are they going to accuse JK Rowling of stealing their name too? They probably took the name from JK Rowling in the first place. I really hope WB wins.
