The Bulgarian premiere of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire took place this past weekend and Stanislav Ianevski (Krum) and director Mike Newell were on hand to discuss the movie.
Stan discussed
being a proud Bulgarian, the process of being in the movie and his desire to remain in the movie business. He also discussed meeting the stars during the first days of shooting:
At first we were introduced to the world of Harry Potter in a very special and warm way, we had two weeks of playing together in order to get to know each other. As for the first shooting day, we were, in the labyrinth and everything there is very scary, everything moves and you live it exactly the way you see it in the movie. I wanted to impress Mike and prove to him that I was really the best for the part, so naturally I was worried.
Mike Newell discussed
how many times he watched the other Potter movies, reading the books, meeting JK Rowling and the reason behind changing to music composer Patrick Doyle.
I wanted a different composer because in the film there was a tremendous amount of music that the actors had to work with, dancing music, walking music, there's lots and lots of music. So it's very difficult for me to work with a composer who is 6,000 miles away. And John Williams lives in Los Angeles, so I needed somebody who was right there. And I've worked with Pat, Patrick Doyle, who is a great composer, twice before, also on Donnie Brasco and he is a great man, to work with, he gives you a lot.
Thanks to Rhonda for the tip.

I thought the reason that John WIlliams didn't do the music was because he was doing STar Wars, and War of the Worlds. I thought Patrick Doyle did an awesome job, but I thought there could have been more of the main theme. It was just sortof lost.

I have to say, I was a little disapointed in GOF with how much krum actually got to say (which was very little). After so much hype for a new character, he was hardly ever there, and never said anything, there wasnt really much (oooo im going to be controversial now) acting involved! Feel free to argue with me, I just think that after all the hype of a new charcter it was a little disapointing. But then, not everthing gets to be in the film so, oh I dont know. Im rambling!

Stan seems like a very genuine character. I think Mike made a good decision about Pat Doyle and changing composers because the music in the movie was really something.

Thats cool. Overall I think Newell did a fantastic job & I wouldn't mind if he came back to do another Potter film in the future =) I wish Stan/Krum had more lines in the movie though...but thats what made him a more "physical being" I suppose. *grin*

Did anyone notice that there was a problem with the translation into English?
From the Newell interview:
"I watched the first film a lot. I watched the second film very little. I watched the third film not very much, but it went in a lot because it's very different from the first two." I read this several times and cannot make sense of the last sentence.
Another comment:
"Viktor Krum, had to be an absolutely wicked dancer and he had to wash her off her feet."
I think they meant sweep her off her feet!

It is good to be hearing for HP actors other than Dan, Rupert, and Emma. I hope they bring him back in the 7th book/movie!!! And it wouldn't be bad to see him acting in more stuff other than HP. He did an excellent job with his part! And he's not to bad looking either! (*hehe*)

These are good interviews. It's nice that all the actors and actresses and crew enjoyed making the film because without enjoyment and affection for it, nothing good will come out of the film.
