International box office returns for 2005 show that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the number one movie
of the year, beating Revenge of the Sith by $67 million (£38 million).
These figures excluded North America where Revenge of the Sith beat Goblet of Fire by nearly $103 million, but one should note that Goblet was released in November while Revenge of the Sith opened during the summer months so it had a longer shelf-life in theaters, especially domestically
where the movie did extremely well.
There is also a poll
on the BBC website asking which movie, Revenge of the Sith or Goblet of Fire you preferred. Currently Goblet is leading 52.47% to Revenge's 47.53%.
To date Goblet of Fire has accumulated
$811.9 million dollars in ticket sales.

A truly amazing number. It will be interesting to see where it is in a month or so. Maybe it will catch and pass the Star Wars movie. Also, should note there has been more competition this Christmas than there was in the summer months.

This is awesomerific! GoF number one!
Since that many people showed interest in the movie, they should perhaps make it longer...
Well, I'm really glad GoF did so well! I hope the next film does just as wel, or better!

Now who was it that was going on about how the Potter movies were getting worse and was citing income as support? I think this proved that writer wrong! Yeah GOF (my favorite so far)!

Alright! 'Goblet of Fire' has finally beaten 'Revenge of the Sith.' And it's been just 46 days out in the theatres! How cool is that?
I wonder why us fans are really concerned about this. We don't even get anything from it!!! I suppose it's the love of the books and all, hehe...

Wow! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire made so much money. I'm not surprised that it beat Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, but I'm still astonished at the fact that it was so successful and that it made the number one movie of the year of 2005! In my opinion, it was extremely successful and it was definitely the best movie of 2005. It had all the elements of a good movie and was enjoyable for the majority of people who watched it.

WOW $811.9 million!!!! Yea for HP & the GoF!! That is really true for N. America sales about Star Wars III coming out in the summer and GoF coming out in the late fall. Star Wars III had almost 6 months to rack up revenue and GoF only had 2 months!! I think it's great and I'm not surprised that it ranked the highest for the year 2005!! What great news to bring in 2006!!
