I don't understand what is involved in sound editing. I'm sure it's not as simple as the best song or best soundtrack categories.

It is pretty complicated. I just finished a Soumd course in college this past semester, so I am going to try and explain. Sound Editing is basically the sound effects that are not in the final cut of the film. Sound editing makes sure that sound effects are not overused in a movie. I hope that maid sense.

This is really going to be a tight race. I honestly think that Memiors of a Geisha has a strong chance.

Oooh, tough competition. I hope Harry Potter wins, but I saw all of the movies, and some of them had really good sound. Well, at least if Harry Potter loses, they'll know they lost to some other good movie.

Here is how i think this catagory will go down.
Harry Potter-my favorite movie of the year, and should get the nomination, but has stiff copition.
King Kong- Was good, but it was too long. May get the nomination because the acdemy likes to kiss peter jacksons but.
Star Wars- Had very good sound, and wasn't overdone with the sound effects. But the Visual FX were a little overdone.

Just so you all know, it didn't get the nomination yet. That list just means it has a chance of getting a nomination in that catagory. It also got "short listed" for visual effects.

I'm glad HP and the Gof was nominated, but this is a bit esoteric..."sound editing." How about the major awards? It was one of the top movies of 2005.

GAH it seems like the HP movies always go up against the flipping biggest movies of the year so its REALLY had to pick which one to go for.

I love HP, but it definatley has some very tough competition. I mean king kong and star wars? Very tough, and as for the soundtrack, I think John Williams took all his talent with him-I mean how do you not include the theme music that has been in all the previous movies? It was there at the end but not in the begining where it counts.
