Contrary to a most recent report
, Warner Bros. has just confirmed to us that Gary Oldman will be reprising his role as Sirius Black for the fifth film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Additionally, David Thewlis is also confirmed to return and reprise his role as Remus Lupin.
Both actors are expected to start filming later this summer.
UPDATE: HPANA has learned that despite this announcement, no contract has been presented to or signed with Gary Oldman. Details here.

Alright! They've both reprised their roles. That sure was a relief for Gary Oldmam, if the rumors were true, that is. It would be really weird if he won't play as Sirius. Can't wait to see more OotP updates!

Ok, so when I had read the report about Oldman not being in OotP, I couldn't believe it. In fact, I didn't really believe it. I decided (if simply to console myself) that whoever emailed GaryOldman.info was not truly his manager, and was in fact an imposter. I do believe that I am correct on this.

That is seriously great that David id coming back too because I thought that he made a wonderful Remus. It is exciting to know that filming with start this summer. I will be busy with 4-H then, so the time will fly by! YES!!!!! I will just dance around for a second..... OK I am back. I picked up my dog and danced with him singing Weasley is our King. I don't know why but it just popped into my head and I felt like dancing! I am getting off topic yet again. So, i am very excited that Gary is COMING back since Sirius is one of my favorite characters. It is just sooooo sad that he was killed by drapery.(sob)But, it must be super hard on Harry since he finally had something like a parent and it gets taken away so quickly. That is the only problem I will have with this movie. Sirius will die. I am still in denial. Well, hooray for Gary and David. Happy Filming.

Come on! Some of you guys actually thought that Gary Oldman wasn't gonna be in the OotP? Well, I really don't think that you can have the "curtain" scene without him - and that's a pretty big part of the whole thing, don't ya think?

Like The1WhoMustBeNamed said, it's pretty incredible that, short of Richard Harris' passing, the HP film series has managed to keep all of these amazing cast members so far. I was a little afraid that Gary Oldman might not make it, but I imagined he'd be excited to enact Sirius' final battle scene. It'll be so great to see the interactions between the members of the Order with Oldman and Thewlis on board to keep Harry in the loop.
