Contrary to a most recent report
, Warner Bros. has just confirmed to us that Gary Oldman will be reprising his role as Sirius Black for the fifth film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Additionally, David Thewlis is also confirmed to return and reprise his role as Remus Lupin.
Both actors are expected to start filming later this summer.
UPDATE: HPANA has learned that despite this announcement, no contract has been presented to or signed with Gary Oldman. Details here.

I am so happy that both Gary and David are going to be back in OotP. Since they are probably my two favorite characters, that makes me completely estatic. So if they are in there it must mean that a lot of the Orders scenes are going to be there too!

David Thewlis isn't anything like my image of Lupin. Well, that's good that he's back as it would have been more stupid if the actors had changed.

Yeah! I'm so glad to know that both Oldman and Thewlis are on board! They did such an awesome job in the third film...I would have liked to have seen more of Oldman in GoF, but, I understand that it was a loooooonnnnnnnggggg book and they were trying to cut all sorts of things to make it work.
Speaking of looooonnnnnggggg books, I wonder what they'll cut from OotP? You know they can't put all of that in a single movie without some major losses.

I suppose lots of people will be glad they're both going to be in film 5, but I am not. I don't think Thewlis portrays Lupin well at all, there is something I don't like. And Sirius should be much better looking, although now he won't be as raggy as he was in the third film, so there migth be hope.

I've been dying to get this out, and I can't wait any longer. I believe HPANA over most places on the internet (of course that means I believe TLC and all the places HPANA believes to be credible) because JKR has trusted them for so long now herself and after following the site for so long and never having read anything claiming to be fact that turned out to be false.
Even still, I almost wonder if most people aren't better off not looking on the internet for small details like the cast list before it's finalized and released in its entirety, because it's causing so much trouble and stress for probably nothing (due to a little thing called miscommunication).
