After weeks of uncertainty and conflicting press reports, Gary Oldman is set to reprise his role as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, his management company confirmed today.
Fan site GaryOldman.info
posted the news earlier, and in a short interview Oldman's long-time manager Doug Urbanski confirmed it to HPANA, and elaborated on the prolonged ordeal.
"I'm so relieved and happy," said Urbanski. "I can't put my mind in the place of the producers, but I would've thought that when they read the book, a call to us would've been very high on their list. Obviously, the character of Sirius Black is key."
Urbanski said he was baffled by the months-long silence from Warner Bros. There were other jobs on offer to Oldman, and he was very close to taking one.
"Since they had no option for Gary on this film, he was a free agent. Last week, we told them that Gary had another movie, and it was just a question of doing a deal," he said.
Of the negotiations this morning with producer David Heyman, Urbanski said: "It was the most mature, simple and friendly negotiation that I've ever done."
"It's a wonderful role. Gary read the script last night, and he read part of it to me on the phone this morning. The end of the story is: Gary's in it. It's a terrific script, and he's so happy to be back."
Oldman also turned 48 today.

Thank God!!! I had a nightmare last night that the fifth film was horrible because he was left out and they put Quiddtich underwater!! The Snitch was a yellow beach ball!!! Anyway... back on topic... the point of the story is I have been jumpy all day worried that the film will be ruined by his exclusion!

First: Happy Birthday!
Sceond: Why the heck was it taking so long? He is like the most important character in OotP, they couldn't have cut him again. And as far as getting someone else to play Sirius, I think that would be impossible because a) the fans would be in an uproar, and b) do you know how much merchandise I own with his head on it? That would be a kick in the teeth to find out it was all the "wrong" guy. And anyway, it would be even more mega confusing for the people that didn't read the books. My mom was already confused a bit by PoA and GoF, we don't need to add to it by switching actors!
Okay, so now that I've ranted, Happy Birthday, again! I had you in my agenda, actually.

Yea!!! I have to admit that I was getting a little concerned. I can't imagine anyone else playing the part of Sirius... and to think that Gary would have been left out in the cold just didn't seem right. I knew better, but I did get nervous. And I love what was said about the negotiations. Just goes to prove that David, et.al., are a class act!

When Gary Oldman took the role for the third movie,I didn't think he was a good part for it.However, seeing as he played Sirius in the third movie,I couldn't see anyone else doing it.But who is going to play the young version of him in this movie?

Are we really shocked that it took this long? I think not. If Heyman had hired him upfront then he would have had to pay him. When you have budgets to control then you have to do what you need to do to keep them under control.

Finally, can't believe we would have had OOTP without our Sirius. It is a little baffling why they signed all the minor parts and everything but not Oldman. Happy Birthday!

This is so wicked,I was so mad that filming had already started and there was no Gary, Sirius is a very important person in this film, so having a new actor play him would have been a disaster. but thankfuly Gary's back. Yay
