Gary Oldman returns for 'OotP', Sirius-ly

After weeks of uncertainty and conflicting press reports, Gary Oldman is set to reprise his role as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, his management company confirmed today.

posted the news earlier, and in a short interview Oldman's long-time manager Doug Urbanski confirmed it to HPANA, and elaborated on the prolonged ordeal.
"I'm so relieved and happy," said Urbanski. "I can't put my mind in the place of the producers, but I would've thought that when they read the book, a call to us would've been very high on their list. Obviously, the character of Sirius Black is key."
Urbanski said he was baffled by the months-long silence from Warner Bros. There were other jobs on offer to Oldman, and he was very close to taking one.
"Since they had no option for Gary on this film, he was a free agent. Last week, we told them that Gary had another movie, and it was just a question of doing a deal," he said.
Of the negotiations this morning with producer David Heyman, Urbanski said: "It was the most mature, simple and friendly negotiation that I've ever done."
"It's a wonderful role. Gary read the script last night, and he read part of it to me on the phone this morning. The end of the story is: Gary's in it. It's a terrific script, and he's so happy to be back."
Oldman also turned 48 today.

That really is good news, im really glad they have finally confirmed he will be back. I hope he has a wonderful birthday and the next movie wouldn't have been the same without him, its going to be an emotional movie, but he's great as sirius.

Wonderful! I'm glad that he is coming back! It would be really strange to try and replace any major character at this time... I think the movie might not work as well. Too many people know the characters and would be disappointed. Look at what happened DD's character, death not withstanding.

Thank God! It just wouldn't have been Order of the Phoenix without Oldman! Sirius plays such a big role in this movie that we just wouldn't have been able to have a good movie without him in it. I mean, he's got such an integral role in the book and there is just no way that he could be left out! And it's rather surprising that Warner Bros. took so long to contact him and his agent. But it's a great relief to me to know that he will indeed be playing Sirius.

Maybe I am getting a little too excited about this, but I am so happy that it has finally been sorted out and that Gary Oldman is indeed going to be playing Sirius again. I would do the happy dance, but the squeal of delight I think has upset the rest of my office a bit much already.... :D
Now I am really looking forward to OOTP! And if they have a trailer out by the end of this year that would be absolutely brilliant!

All I have to say is: "It's about time". They have been letting us suffer over this. I think it was bad enough that we didn't get to actually see Sirius in GoF. It just woouldn't fair if he's not in OoTP. Oh, but what am I saying? There wouldn't be an OoTP without Sirius. Anyway, I'm glad we know for sure that Gary O. is back for film 5.

I'm soo glad he's back..he was an excellent Sirius in POA, he totally freaked me out when i first saw him emerging from the shadows, really unexpected..but i reckon that it's going to be great seeing him back...and i'm sure you guys will agree after seeing your posts in a previous article...
GO GARY!! I can't wait for the movie... and i hope they don't try to change character roles this late into the series...i've grown used to all the actors!
