HPANA has learned from a reliable and authoritative source that UK composer Nicholas Hooper
will score the soundtrack for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Hooper is a long-time collaborator of director David Yates and most of his credits are for television projects in Britain.
He won a BAFTA for Best Original Score in 2004 for one such project, according to a biography on his agents' web site.
Order of the Phoenix is slated to be released July 13, 2007.
UPDATE: This news was confirmed by Warner Bros. on August 2.

I dunno about this dude. I love Williams, and even warmed out to the rumor that Dario Marianelli might do the score. But this guy? Who does TV work?

I want Williams! He has done all the best music for the Harry Potter films! Why can't we stick to the same actors and composers?

Would it be too much to ask for people to read the news articles properly before going off about the fact that this guy is a rookie and only has the gig because he's friends with the director?
I mean, has anyone *actually* read his biography? I wouldn't call someone who has scored over 250 television shows and movies a rookie. He has also won a BAFTA, so he must be able to compose at a half decent level.
I haven't heard of this guy before or heard his work - but it seems people are overtly judging him because 1) he's not Williams (who may not actually *want* the job) and 2) he's worked with the director before...
How about reading stuff properly guys and not just the bits you want to!

I've never even heard of this guy!!! I didn't like Doyle as much as Williams and Williams has done almost all of my favorite movies, his music makes my emotions connect to the movie, and Doyle's simply didn't so I don't hold high hopes for the new guy. And frankly I don't like them "replacing" Williams so I really don't even feel like giving him a chance. I know it's not fair but does it really sound like I care!

icabarburus, well he's done TV shows, so I can't exactly call him a movie expert. If I don't even like the idea of him composing, WHY, would I read his biography!
Also the composer from the previous movie, Doyle, was supposed to be good, and he'd worked with the director before, and his music fell short of every expectation Williams had set, so you'll have to forgive me for not wanting to "Welcome" this new guy to the group. And I don't really like the fact that we have begun to change directors AND composers every movie.

I have no idea & never heard of him. But again, I wasn't familiar w/ Patrick Doyle either, but was pleasantly suprised. Im not going to start worrying about the OOTP score just yet.

If you had bothered to read the article properly, you would see that he has also done movies - not just TV as you have stated...
Maybe you should read his biography - its called openmindedness, not just canning someone because you can.
And in reference to Doyle - I actually thought his music added to GoF in a way that Williams never could - I find William's idea of dramatic suspence rather comical.
You may not like the idea of directors and composers changing every movie, but I think it keeps it fresh.
Have you considered the fact they may be replacing Williams is he doesn't want to do it anymore? They may not be changing for changes sake, but for actual need.

There seems to be quite a few rumors floating around about who will be writing the score for OotP. When it is all said and done, I sure hope John Williams will be doing it.

OoTP had a much diferent, darker feel than the previous books. With that in mind, it's not that surprising they would want a diferent sound or the film. I reserve judgment. :)
