HPANA has learned from a reliable and authoritative source that UK composer Nicholas Hooper
will score the soundtrack for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Hooper is a long-time collaborator of director David Yates and most of his credits are for television projects in Britain.
He won a BAFTA for Best Original Score in 2004 for one such project, according to a biography on his agents' web site.
Order of the Phoenix is slated to be released July 13, 2007.
UPDATE: This news was confirmed by Warner Bros. on August 2.

Until it is confirmed by the WB, I shall treat this as a rumor. If the composer has to be changed, for me, at least find someone with good credibilities, not just by connection.

I want Williams back too! I agree with 5225 thought, I treat everything as if it is a rumor, unless it is comfirmed by WB. Let's not forget the whole Gary Oldham debacle!

The music is going to be fantastic whoever composes it! The music does not make the film, it's the content that counts!

I have no idea who he is... but oh well. As long as the score doesn't stray to much from the original theme. "Hedwig's Theme" is classic. I don't care what anyone else says!

OK, all I can say is that he'd better be good and not louse it up... just because he's worked with the director before doesn't mean he should automatically have a place in the movie. If he sucks, I'm gonne be REALLY pissed off.

Just so long as we get some of hedwig's theme back...not just a miniscule part either. there wasn't enough of it in the fourth film.

John Williams is the best composer in the movie business. But we've already made it through one movie without him. Though I'm not too keen on having a "rookie" handling the compositional duties of such a huge franchise. Of course, lack of experience didn't sway WB's choice of director either.

Interesting...I wonder why there are so many conflicting reports about the composer for OotP?
Well, I don't know much about Hooper (I'm off to imdb.com after this to look him up) but I wish John Williams would come back - I love his music and it would keep the soundtracks consistant. If he doesn't, then the producers should find one composer and stick with him/her from now on.

Well, it's nice to see another UK composer come aboard to take the reins for OOTP, but I hope Hooper does a better job than Patrick Doyle. Not that Doyle was bad, but he only kept one theme and the score was good, but lacked a spark that would make it truly memorable. John Williams was the true musical voice for HP, let's hope Hooper can do better than Doyle.

We don't know, maybe Williams doesn't want to return.
I think it's something good to have new people. We must give this new composer an oppornunity.
He will come with energy and passion, and that's something that maybe a composer like Williams who has done 3 of the scores for HP has lost. Maybe he would not put so much enthusiasm as this new composer can put.
