Tony Maudsley as Grawp in 'Order of the Phoenix'

Tony Maudsley
has been cast for the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film, according to The Leaky Cauldron. Representatives for the actor have confirmed that he will be portraying the character Grawp, Hagrid's half-brother, the site reported today.
Mr. Maudsley has had several roles in television and film, most notably in Vanity Fair (with Reese Witherspoon) and Sleepy Hollow (with Johnny Depp).
[Editor's Note: Previous reports have led us to believe that the giant would be completely computer-generated -- producer David Heyman first said so during the Goblet of Fire world premiere and he supported this claim during at the Empire Awards. Thus, it's likely Mr. Maudsley may be the voice (or movement) actor for the character.]

Oh im so glad the are putting grawp in the film! I think he will do well in the movie, whether he is just the voice and movement, or they are just going to make him look big.

Interesting. I'd hoped much less attention would be paid to Grawp in the film than was in the book, as I wasn't too keen on the whole Grawp storyline in the book. I am guessing Grawp will (unfortunately) have a bigger role to play in book 7 since he was barely in HBP, yet he's obviously made it into the script for OotP, which could mean JKR has had some influence in making sure he was introduced in the film, for future reference. I was hoping the filmmakers would find a way to cut him. Ho well.

Perhaps it will be something along the likes of Gollum from the Lord of the Rings movies. He was CG, but had a decidedely human actor portraying him. Movies are so good now!
