Tony Maudsley
has been cast for the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film, according to The Leaky Cauldron. Representatives for the actor have confirmed
that he will be portraying the character Grawp, Hagrid's half-brother, the site reported today.
Mr. Maudsley has had several roles in television and film, most notably in Vanity Fair (with Reese Witherspoon) and Sleepy Hollow (with Johnny Depp).
[Editor's Note: Previous reports have led us to believe that the giant would be completely computer-generated -- producer David Heyman first said so during the Goblet of Fire world premiere
and he supported this claim during at the Empire Awards. Thus, it's likely Mr. Maudsley may be the voice (or movement) actor for the character.]

I can't wait to see what they do with his character. I think he looks enough like HAgrid to physically play the part. But, if he's just doing a voice-over, that would be great too.

He looks alright to me, but like the note says ithought he would be computer generated...mind you i suppose giants look like humans and so would not have to be completely Computer generated like the troll was *shrugs* Ahah i can just see him in a gollum like motion sensor suit acting out tantrums in a green/blue room...fun job to have, all you have to do is make a fool of yourself and gruns aha. Good luck to the guy :)

Gaahhh... it's also likely that they changed their minds like they did with the "down to the last 5" Luna-casting. So confusing.... :(

Why do they need an actor for Grawp? Couldn't they have just computer animated it like the troll in SS? Oh well, the guy seems good for the role, anyway.

I kinda hope they use his face coz it looks almost exactly how I had imagined grawp. He was good in sleepy hollow so we know he can act but even though hes tall hes still a bit shy of 16 feet..

This is interesting to know. It is indeed confusing considering what the producer has said before, but like eudaemonia said, one never knows what change of mind (or circumstances, for that matter), hence change in decisions the movie creators have had. Confusing, yet I hope and believe it will turn out great :)

It's nice to know that they aren't cutting Gwarp out completely. I didn't know if it was a big enough story line to do. I hope that if they do computer animate it, that they do better than they did with Fireze in PS

Ohhhh interesting!!
I dont think they will do a Hagrid with this one. Maybe it will be like Smeagol from LOTR.

Well, that's good to hear that they found somebody. I wonder if he'll actually be Grawp or just the voice. It's not like Grawp talks much... and he'd definitely have to be gigantic for the part.

Ripley Turner says:
What I think they would do is have Grawp computer generated, but have set up like they did Gollum. Because in that case they still need both the actor and the voice.

Seems fine to me. I wonder how the finished product of Grawp will look. Good, I hope-- not TOO fake or anything, even if he IS a fictional character.

I agree with Ripley Turner
They will use Tony Maudsley in much the same capacity as Peter Jackson used Andy Serkis for Gollum in LOTR.

Oh I really hope they have changed their minds and Grawp will not be all computer generated after all. Actually most CGI characters look alright in the HP movies (especially in GoF) but still...
