Patrick Stewart, who plays Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie series, lamented at a Cannes Film Festival press conference
recently that he hasn't been asked to be in the Harry Potter films.
"Every single actor over 60 in England is in the Harry Potter movies," he replied when asked if he wanted to continue doing fantasy films. "I am still smarting from the fact that Ian McKellen starred in Lord of the Rings and apparently there was no part in it for me."
Prior to the X-Men films, Stewart was best known for his role as Jean-Luc Picard in the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation.
X-Men: The Last Stand opens in theatres this weekend.
Thanks to Angie for the tip!

Oh man he would have made a great Dumbledore. There's just something about him.. a maturity and dignity that he always portays. I think he would have (with a bit of help from the make-up department) easliy done great justice to the role.

Patrick Stewart is a very reputable actor. There is no reason that he shouldn't have a part. The people who are doing the casting must think that he's an American.

Ron+Hermione_4ever , I think that Dumbledore's brother (can't remember his name at the moment...) would be such a small role to play that it just wouldn't be worthy of Patrick Stewart's talents. I agree with you though.. he'd have made a much better Dumbledore than Michael Gambon.

That would be so great if he made it in a movie, I totally love him. But it would be hard not to think of Jeane-Luc Picard, he'd have to be really made up to make me forget StarTrek.

Yeah, I think he was taking a playful little jab at the HP series there. Obviously the X-Men series has been very sucessful as well so he certainly wouldn't feel slighted.
I would like to see him play a baddie, actually. Yes, a death eater, but who...?

Wow, what a great idea! I'm surprised they haven't asked him...but maybe that's because he's already such a type-cast. You know, Star Trek, X-Men...it's all techie, it might not go over well in the magical world. But he'd be a great Death Eater...maybe he could do a camio!

Perhaps there will be a part in a future film, aren't there some death eaters escaping that may be available for Mr. Stewart. I do believe that he would be very good, and I have enjoyed some of his other work, but haven't seen very much of him I'm ashamed to admit.
