When last we checked, a slim majority of fans said Harry Potter would die in the last book in JK Rowling's series.
The informal poll, conducted by HPANA, garnered over 45,000 votes and was even cited by The Sun in an article.
With Rowling's recent revelations about upcoming deaths, we decided to ask again: Dead meat, or life so sweet?
Unlike our last poll, however, you only get two choices: Yay or nay.
Vote now and spread the word.
Put the poll on your web site, blog or journal! Just copy and paste the following code:

KerriBerriSundae: Um, no, JK has NOT said outright that Harry will die in the least. She has always been careful to be ambivalent about that. Just because she said that she understands why certain authors, such as the great Agatha Christie, would kill off their heroes, doesn't mean that she herself will. You misunderstood what she said.
As for the whole "scar=last hoarcrux" idea, I don't think it's going to be the case--I mean, it seems that to make a hoarcrux requires a specific spell and process--I don't think that it can be made accidentally or unconsciously. Thus for Harry's scar to be a Hoarcrux, Voldemort would have to know about it, and if he did, why on earth would he try to kill Harry and thus destroy one of his precious Hoarcuxes? It makes no sense whatsoever. Besides, the prophecy states that one or the other has to die, not both. I stand by my original opinion that he will survive, though I strangely find that I don't care as much anymore one way or the other.

I think harry will die in the next book....the proficies said one can't live while the other dies....Which means Harry and Voldemort both have to die to finish what voldemort started...

If I were JK, I'd keep him alive. Because killing off the main character won't guarantee protection against spin-offs by other non-HP authors: look at Sherlock Holmes. But I'm not JK, so...

I have placed the code on my kindergarten class website! I wouldn't like to see Harry bumped off, but if that is the plan Jo has, then I have to accept it. I wonder who the other 2 will be that she mentioned during her interview.

I voted for him to die.
Now don't get mad...
I am not obsessive over him but I do not have a death wish for him either.
The truth is that Rowling will be hounded to write more if she just stops with Harry alive. She had it in for him and now she will finish him off.

I'm still holding out. I don't want to believe he will die, he is too young and must live out his days with Ginny after he kills Voldy in peace.

It's sad to think that he's going to die, but in some ways Harry is better off dying for the sake of others. Plus, it helps Jo by not having to worry about any additions to the Harry Potter series if the title character is dead.

Looks like a lot more people think Harry's going to die now. I hope it doesn't end that way, Harry needs rewarded for his horrible life and tireless efforts to save the wizard world, he doesn't deserve to be killed off.

That is an interesting poll. Nobody knows the answer except the author. I hope Harry isn't going to die as, I think, everybody does, but it is quite possible he does die. We're going to see in the next book.

I voted no but I'm pretty sure she's going to kill him off for the sake of ended the series w/no loop hole to coner herself with to write another potter book. But I do hope she at least let's him live to a old age and let him die of old age or something.

It's hard to pick at exactly what she meant by the words she used. I can't tell either way which way she is going to go with it, but hopefully there will be a happy ending at the end of book 7 (ie Harry doesn't die), otherwise there is going to be a whole lot of angsty and sad people out there for a very long time. Well, maybe just me.
So, I hope Harry does survive. But I'm not crossing my fingers.... I'll just have to wait and see...

PowerGranger says:
In the past I've leaned toward Harry living, primarily because I think it would be in keeping with one of JKR's bigger themes, good overcoming evil. However, JKR is also a sort of pessimistic person so I can see her "sacrificing" Harry for a greater good, say, as others have suggested, Harry dies while killing Voldemort. In real life there are many instances of such sacrifices and I wouldn't be surprised if JKR decided to go that route.
Of course I will be devastated if Harry doesn't make it -- who doesn't want Harry to have some peace and happiness after all he's been through? I'll understand why she did it though, at least. I'm sure she wouldn't kill Harry off just so other writers couldn't continue the series (like any of us would read those "imposter" books anyway!)
Still, on a practical note, how on earth can Harry's fate be kept a secret long enough for all of us to read book 7?! I am so afraid someone will spoil it for me! I think I'll even avoid the midnight parties and have the book delivered to my home and institute a news blackout until I've finished. Last thing I need is some idiot going right to the end and blabbing the news while I'm still on line picking up my copy!
