During the press day for M. Night Shyamalan's
latest movie Lady in the Water
, the direct was asked
if his new studio Warner Bros., who release the Harry Potter movies, had tried to convince him to direct one of the last two films in the series.
Shyamalan's reply when asked about directing a Harry Potter movie:
You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time. The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That's a tricky move.
I haven't met with J.K. [Rowling]. The first one was offered to me, but that conflicted with Unbreakable, which was unfortunate. I would definitely, but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I've gotten close a few times to adapting books.
Shyamalan is widely known for his popular movies Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village, all of which he wrote and directed. Lady in the Water opens nationwide in the U.S. on July 21st.

HIM!!!!! i like his movies but him directing harry potter, they have got to be kidding. He's horror, thriller... harry potter is suspense, mystery. Totally different, he'll kill the movies. It's a huge mistake!!! i'm just saying that now.

Geez, the first movie would have been a lot different if he directed it. I think he would do a really good job with movie six or seven because they are darker than the other ones and he apparently does a lot of dark films. I can't wait to see what he does....

I can't wait to see Lady in the Water!!!! It looks really scary, but good at the same time. I like the Village. That would be interesting. He would make the movie really scary.

I do like M. Night Shyamalan's movies, but I don't really think he is a good choice for the Harry Potter movies. His movies are original and his Ideas. I like JK Rowlings story as we all here do. I hope if he does do one of the movies he sticks totally to her idea.

No. I can't see it. While the last few directors have been able to put their own spins on the stories (within reason), I don't think M. Night Shyamalan could deal with having to answer to so many, especially JKR, on the authenticity issues. I think he would totally hate doing one of the films because he'd feel pretty hemmed in on storyline, characterization...just so many things. I hardly think he'd enjoy that. It would be wild to see his take on the HP universe -- kind of like a fanfic thing --though, where he's in control of the plot and everything.

Wow! Shyamalan really missed out! He turned down Harry Potter for Unbreakable! (which I would rate the worst movie ever made.) Oh well, since Unbreakable was so bad, think what he would have done to Harry Potter! So its probably a good thing.

I don't know. I really don't think he should direct a Harry Potter movie. I don't really like those movies. I also don't think that he should be adapting the Harry Potter books.

Whoa! That would have been trippy to see the direction he would take it. He would be a good match for book 6 since it has more thrills.

Bane of Voldemort says:
I think that M. Night Shyamalan would be perfect for book 6. He is the perfect director for having big twists at the end of movies. Just look at the Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and the Village. The only that might not be good is if he tries to change it to much. But then again, all of the other directors have changed stuff. Look at what happened to Quidditch.

I absolutely love all of his movies. The Sixth Sense and the Village were definately the best of the ones I've seen. I think he would be brilliant to direct the 6th movie... Or maybe even the 7th... Either way, I'm sure the movies would turn out to be the best.

I don't think he would have done any justice for the Harry Potter movies.
If he adapted the book how he wanted to, the movie would not be right and I don't think it would be any good.

I'm really glad he turned it down! I'm not a fan of Chris Columbus, by any menas, but I can't imagine what M. Night would have done with the story! ((Exaggerating)) He probably would have added some irrelevant plot twist ending or an alien! Haha!

He probably would do a bang up job, given the types of movies he makes.
Every time I read HBP, I keep thinking that WB needs to re-hire Alfonso Cuaron though.

I am glad that Shyamalan did not direct the first film. I think that he is over rated. I do not enjoy his work all that much. He may have done alright on the third or fourth film but the first film was critical to the movie success and not his style of film to begin with.
