During the press day for M. Night Shyamalan's
latest movie Lady in the Water
, the direct was asked
if his new studio Warner Bros., who release the Harry Potter movies, had tried to convince him to direct one of the last two films in the series.
Shyamalan's reply when asked about directing a Harry Potter movie:
You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time. The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That's a tricky move.
I haven't met with J.K. [Rowling]. The first one was offered to me, but that conflicted with Unbreakable, which was unfortunate. I would definitely, but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I've gotten close a few times to adapting books.
Shyamalan is widely known for his popular movies Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village, all of which he wrote and directed. Lady in the Water opens nationwide in the U.S. on July 21st.

Wow! I would be so weird seeing what he would have done to the first movie. I do agree that the 1st movie was a lil lame but all in all they have gotten better. I cant wait tell the 5 movie comes out. Who knows maybe he will be asked again to do either the 6th or 7th movie we never know.

*thinks of Shyamalan doing PS*
Naw. He was between doing Unbreakable and Signs. Too much conflict.
*thinks of Shyamalan doing the final film*
That would be interesting. *strokes chin*
Shyamalan's films are not actually horror movies, just very suspenseful, character driven, dramas. Besides, for all of you saying that he couldn't do it because he has never done something like this before, what about Kloves, Cuaron, Newell, and Yates? If I'm not mistaken all but Kloves have never done such a huge film before getting involved in HP. Also, remember Peter Jackson? He did one art house film and a bunch of zombie flicks before LotR. He proved that he could take on that monster. If Shyamalan does do the final HP film, it will definitely be a challenge that I believe that he will do well at.

So far I have seen 3 movies by M.Night Shyamalan. Sixth sense, The Village, and a third one whose title I can't possibly remember. I enjoyed the first two, the other was rather deceiving-far too close to 6th sense, yet not as interesting-it appears that Shyamalan is quite skilled at bringing mistery, tension, a sort of "dark" dimension, which would have given the 1st episode its full sense, which Colombus apparently quite failed to grasp and transmit. I would definitely enjoy a Harry Potter movie by Shyamalan.

Wow - a Harry Potter movie by M. Night - that would be too great - book six would be awesome - can you imagine the atmosphere he would be able to give the lake scene where Dumbledore drinks the potion?

Well my opinion is that although he may be a very talented director.... It's just not right for HP. It needed to be lighthearted for the first movies, but.. I don't know.. As long as he doesn't change anything. Then I don't see why not? I can imagine him doing a very good Dumbledore death scene.
But then again, lets face it. The Village?.. Pah.
How rubbish was that movie?! I came out thinking.. well that was just a complete waste of my time.
So really.. I don't know. I'm undecided.

M. Night Shyamalan's film just looks so spooky. it could be a great asset to the harry potter saga.
Though i think he should try to make his visual style a little more like the 4th film.

What a loser, Unbreakable was a really bad movie, he should have gone for the HP films instead. But, who knows, he might have tried to put one of his crazy endings in the film....Maybe he can do a spoof?

That would be so cool. M. Night Shyamalan is an amazing director. He would make an amazing HP movie. I wish that he would direct one of the last two movies. They would be so cool to watch. I hope that he decides to direct one of the last two movies.

I really like M Night Shyamalan's movies, but I just can't picture him working within the context of a book. Of course, most of the directors of the first 4 HP movies took some pretty big liberties.

M. Night Shyamalan is a great director...but I am not sure that I would want him to direct a Harry Potter movie. Oh well, I don't really like the movies, so at least it would make them interesting. Watch out for the Aliens...

Well that's news. Somehow, I don't think I could picture him directing the first HP movie. It certainly wouldn't have turned out how it did now. Maybe he'll do one of the remaining movies?

I don't as much care who directs it, they just have to do a good job especially if it is HP7! I just hope that if there is a new director everything isn't moved around again... in every movie Hogwarts changes! I still love the movies though.

Hmmm, I dont know how I feel about this one. I love Shymalan movies, but Harry Potter? I dont know, I think it may have made the movies a little to scary for the kiddos. I would have loved to see him do either OoTP or HBP though. I think it would fit him well.

He's got some good films to his name, not sure if he is appropriate for Harry Potter, even though the books are getting darker.
