During the press day for M. Night Shyamalan's
latest movie Lady in the Water
, the direct was asked
if his new studio Warner Bros., who release the Harry Potter movies, had tried to convince him to direct one of the last two films in the series.
Shyamalan's reply when asked about directing a Harry Potter movie:
You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time. The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That's a tricky move.
I haven't met with J.K. [Rowling]. The first one was offered to me, but that conflicted with Unbreakable, which was unfortunate. I would definitely, but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I've gotten close a few times to adapting books.
Shyamalan is widely known for his popular movies Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village, all of which he wrote and directed. Lady in the Water opens nationwide in the U.S. on July 21st.

Oooooh He seems like the perfect person to direct the next two movies! Nice and dark with a lot of drama ... his field you'd think. =D

Although he is a wonderful director, I really don't think he should be put in charge of a Harry Potter film. He said himself the problem was he couldn't make it his own. I'd really rather him not do that to the franchise.

I hope he will direct one of the Harry Potter movies, he could offer something to them. I think its good how they use new directors everytime, because they all bring something new to them.

Very interesting. I think he would do very well directing a Potter movie. I am a fan of his movies. They are very good. He is a very good director, I would not mind seeing his name in the credits for either the 6th or 7th movie

He does have some really awesome movies that are unique in their own right and make you think on a different level...plus you have to admire the trick endings that you didn't see coming.
The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything.
He makes a very valid point there becuz his movies are on a whole 'nother level. Since JKR lives to have a very major part in how her books are translated onto film, I don't know if Shyamalan is the right person to take over the Harry Potter movie filming. I'm sure he'd do a great job, but I don't know if he could truly capture HP fans' expectations--not that many of the other directors have done so hot a job.

He's a great director and i loved all his movies....but i'm glad that he didn't direct the first harry potter movie...i think it would be alot scarier than the one we know and love. But i think he would do a great job directing the last one by that time everything will have gotten darker.

Whoa! If Shyamlan did direct the first one, then it would prolly be scarier..haha. But if he were to direct one of the Potter movies, like HBP or the seventh one...(or maybe even OOTP) it would be kinda cool since they are the more 'scary//dark ones.'

Well it would be interesting to see what he would do with it but I much prefer directors who stick to the canon of the books. I don't like when the go off on thier wild tangents of shoving things in that don't belong and don't fit to the story. So maybe it's better off that way, because I think he would rather "reinvente" HP rather than tell the story of.

I think he would have been perfect for the fourth movie, since it is a mysterious movie, but not the sixth...

He's done some good work although I've heard Unbreakable was horrible. I've never seen that cause I've never heard anything good about it.
I'm not sure I'd have picked him as the producer but I guess it would be interesting to see what sort of twist he would add to any of the movies.

Most of Shyamalan's movies are great. But scary. I think it will be kind of cool if he directed one. Just to see it from his point of view.

I liked Columbuses directoring in CoS and Ps/SS. Imagine how differnt the films would be if Shyamalan had directed the 3rd book - He has said that if he was to direct the 7th films he would protects JKr's work.

Cool, I haven't seen either of the movies that he's made but what I've seen in terms of clips has been quite nice and suspenseful. I wonder if he will be doing any of the future books.

Oh man. Oh man oh man oh man!
Let me think this out. We had Chris Columbus on one hand. We had M. Night frickin' Shyamalan on the other. We either had the d---- b-- who directed Home Alone, or the brilliant creativity of the writer and director behind some of the best thrillers of my generation.
*hits head against wall* This sucks. I wish I had never known this! Listen, I loved the first movie. But I'm just sitting here imagining the masterpiece it could have been in the hands of a brilliant director like Shyamalan.
It would have been supremely wicked. All those cutesy, campy moments. Gone, replaced by sharp humor, real humanity, and armrest-gripping moments of suspense. You know... like the book.
Bah. I'm so sick right now.
