During the press day for M. Night Shyamalan's
latest movie Lady in the Water
, the direct was asked
if his new studio Warner Bros., who release the Harry Potter movies, had tried to convince him to direct one of the last two films in the series.
Shyamalan's reply when asked about directing a Harry Potter movie:
You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time. The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That's a tricky move.
I haven't met with J.K. [Rowling]. The first one was offered to me, but that conflicted with Unbreakable, which was unfortunate. I would definitely, but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I've gotten close a few times to adapting books.
Shyamalan is widely known for his popular movies Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village, all of which he wrote and directed. Lady in the Water opens nationwide in the U.S. on July 21st.

I can imagine him possibly directing the 7th movie, but only because it's bound to be the darkest of the series. Shyamalan directing the first one would have been...well, Scary.

Well he's more of a scary director... so maybe he'd make a harry potter scary kind of what it's supposed to be like.

Shyamalan could have been very interesting for the first movie but it sounds like He would not have been given free reign with the movie to do as he felt so I can understand his not taking it. Even if he were not committed at the time to another project. It certainly would have been a much darker movie than it was I think.

I would love it if Shyamalan directed one of the Harry Potter movies. I think he would do an excellent job with reaching out to the older fans and bring a very mystical quality to the films.

I am soooo glad he did not do the first or second movie. The first two were innocent and the story needed to be told. I think he would have been great on POA and I think he could do a great job on OotP.
I think he is saying he would not do it now because you have to stick to the story and he likes a wide creative license.

I am so happy he did not get to do this movie. I like his stuff, but he is not right for Harry Potter. I can't imagine how creepy they would have been. We would have lost the point.

Wow, how crazy would that be if he directed one of the films, it would be a constant fright-fest(even though his movies arnt generally scary) but you never know, that would be a craxy thing to go though.

M. Night Shymalan could possibly do a great job on a Harry Potter film. I would much rather have him than Michael Bay or Uwe Bolle. Yecch!

Oh my gosh! I didn't know that piece of information! It feels a little creepy knowing that If things had gone a different way, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone would have been a lot different because of having Shyamalan as its director.

Hmm... that would have been amazing if he directed one of the movies... The most recent movies would have been way better than they were. They would have had humor and suspense all in the right places. EH, maybe Order of the Phoenix will be better.

Having this director for the first movie could have been really wickedly cool. I never knew this fact. I think he'd be really good at incorporating the mystery and plot twists into the movies.

I think that it is a good thing that he didn't do the first two movies. But I think that he would have been great directing the third and the fourth movie though.

I can't imagine him directing the first one. I think if he ever did..i'd be so scared of it, I'd run out of the theatre, am also afraid that Harry will end up seeing dead people in the end....he's forte is in making suspense thriller films and I think he better stick with that.. =)
