During the press day for M. Night Shyamalan's
latest movie Lady in the Water
, the direct was asked
if his new studio Warner Bros., who release the Harry Potter movies, had tried to convince him to direct one of the last two films in the series.
Shyamalan's reply when asked about directing a Harry Potter movie:
You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time. The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That's a tricky move.
I haven't met with J.K. [Rowling]. The first one was offered to me, but that conflicted with Unbreakable, which was unfortunate. I would definitely, but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I've gotten close a few times to adapting books.
Shyamalan is widely known for his popular movies Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village, all of which he wrote and directed. Lady in the Water opens nationwide in the U.S. on July 21st.

Looking at his last movies, I clearly would say: NO WAY!!! His movies are getting worse more and more, The Village was absolutely terrible! He still wants to have the "big surprise" at the end of the movies and it doesn't work any longer: In "The Village" it was just ridiculous.
Handing over the adoption papers: wouldn't that mean that he can decide about everything? Horror!!!
If he continues his style I really don't even want to imagine what we will see in the end.
Please, just leave him where he is!!!

Hmm I don't know, he directs horror films so who knows what he would do with a Harry Potter film. It would be cool to see what he does though, if he does one.

Oooooh, I'm a big fan of Shyamalan's. I can't wait to see Lady in the Water.
Not so sure that Harry Potter would have been a good thing for him to take on though. I don't think the stories would be his style. He's a bit too off-beat...

Did you see The Sixth Sense? If you didn't and you don't mind creepy "I see dead people" movies; you should check that one out. :-)

I think that it's good when the direceting is shared around, because it gives a variety of views of how the books are interpreted!

wow... that is kinda cool... but I think that Shayamalan would be weird to direct a Harry Potter movie... but then again he would have been way better than ALFANZO... *gah* But I think that Chris Columbus did a fantastic job on the first two movies and Columbus is one of my fav directors!!! <3333

I seriously think that he should somehow be involved in the last two movies, he would be able to bring on a sense of a more dark and scarier Harry Potter movie, not that it's needed, but I think that JK will somehow at some point during the next book, make moment where all hope is lost, and I think he'd be good at that sort of stuff!!!!:D

That is very interesting. I wonder how the first one would have been if M. Night had done it. He is great with thrillers although the first one was not. He should have done PoA or GoF.

I wouldn't have liked the film if he directed it- I thought 'The Village' was awful. And don't get me started on 'The Sixth Sense'... Thank goodness he had 'Unbreakable' to film.

I don't kow if he could be a good director. He does scary movies and writes his own stuff. Even though the next book is a little bit scary, I don't think he could really get the sense of the movie. I don't know if he could capture the non-scary moments of the book well, he's only done scary movies?

WIth that director I don't know how the book will be on the screen. With the two last one that are the darkest of the series he could do something but I don't see him doing the first...

While he is an outstanding director, his projects have him rewriting the theme. Frankly, I like the way JK writes.
