During the press day for M. Night Shyamalan's
latest movie Lady in the Water
, the direct was asked
if his new studio Warner Bros., who release the Harry Potter movies, had tried to convince him to direct one of the last two films in the series.
Shyamalan's reply when asked about directing a Harry Potter movie:
You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time. The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That's a tricky move.
I haven't met with J.K. [Rowling]. The first one was offered to me, but that conflicted with Unbreakable, which was unfortunate. I would definitely, but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I've gotten close a few times to adapting books.
Shyamalan is widely known for his popular movies Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village, all of which he wrote and directed. Lady in the Water opens nationwide in the U.S. on July 21st.

well, I wish someone else had done the movie before this last one, it stunk. It is like an adoption though, the directors have to put aside their creative differences and keep the flow going.
Not always easy.

While I agree that I have enjoyed most of his films, I do not think that he would be the right choice to direct any of the HP movies. Hi does re-write scripts and of course, it is his trademark to have some sort of twist ending. I really do think it important that a director will follow the story as written and not try to make it 'their own'. So in short, thumbs down on Shayamalan.

Well, he has some excellent movies under his belt. I would be interested to see his take on HBP or book 7. It doesn't sound like he is very likely to take up a Harry Potter movie now, does it?

Hmmm... That's an interesting choice... I have my doubts at the moment. Considering that I want the romance in movie 6 to be portrayed well I'm not sure if I want to have a horror movie directer direct it. (Although it would be good for the scene in the cave)

I think it would be cool to see other people with different ways of thinking to direct the Harry Potter movies, it would be more interesting I think.

Hmmm I am not sure if I would like him to direct a Potter film. The Sixth Sense was good but the others... I mean come on; Unbreakable? That movie was a stinker and so was The Village.....
No thanks Mr.Shyamalan.

WHOA! Could you even imagine the HP movies then? The would be so different! I couldn't even picture it! Shyamalan as director would be so different! I cannot say in good or bad way, but it would certainly change things. He certainly has imaginative ideas!
GO HP!

Nothing personal against Mr Shayman, but I am quite glad he didn't do any of the directing. I don't think his style would quite suit the Harry Potter series at all. He is just too dark, and too deep. He may be brilliant, but this is Jo's book, not Shayman's, and he would quite ruin the stories, in my humble opinion...

Well, that's cool. He's a pretty neat guy even though his movies are a little on the strange side. I wonder how different it would have been.

I think that would be kind of cool if Shyamalan directed one of the Harry Potter movies. Expecially one of the last two becuz the are darker and scarier which is what Shyamalan loves to do anyways and he has made some good movies so I could only guess what he could turn a HArry Potter movie into.

Ahh... The Director of the Harry Potter movies is just like the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Never the same one twice! (Except with the 1st & 2nd movies)

Well, I honestly hope that he doesn't direct any of the HP movies because I've seen Sixth Sense, Signs, and The Village; it seems the later the movies the worse they get. Sixth Sense was good but I fell asleep in the theater while watching Signs and The Village was scary at all.

OH MY GAWD!!!
I never knew he was ever offered a Potter movie, I really think he would be awesome. He has a warped mind and he knows how to make you fall in love with characters. For me this is very exciting news and I so hope that he takes on this huge project. Otherwise, I’d like to see Peter Jackson step in! WOW!!

Hmmmm, this will be interesting whatever way it turns out. I have seen all of this guys films, and no doubt he is a great director, but i think he likes to make things more scaryer, and for thoses who have seen his films, you know what i mean. I think he would be great at directing one of the films, but i think he would change them up more that what they should be. Dose anyone else agree?

I think he would have been perfect for the fourth movie, particullarly the part in the graveyard. But if they could get him to do the last two, that would be amazing, I can only imagine what it would be like, until of course I saw it.

It would be interesting to see what he would do If he were to direct "Half Blood Prince." He is very good with atmospherics and creating tension in a quiet way. That sense of dread seems to get going from Page one in the book. How about in the Movie? He could do it. The real Question is would he leave Pennsylvania to direct it?

I would be much happier about a British director. This guy grew up in America I understand. And he himself says he's never adopted a book... I hope he's not considered seriously for any future HP movies.

I think Shyamalan would be a great director for the end of the series. He's great at suspense. I'm also glad that he didn't get picked up at the beginning of the series, because I love the naivete of the first movie, with all those brand new actors and the friendly lighting.
Although I can't picture him making a movie if it doesn't have a twist ending. (Bruce Willis is dead! The Village is in the present!)

I saw this first on another site and it got me thinking. Just how different would the first movie have been if he directed it? Thats food for thought. Would the seris be popular as it is? Would it have been a flop? A huge success? I guess we will never know haha Its cool to think about that stuff though.

I'm not a fan his movies to date. I don't really think he would be able to do justice to a Potter movie based on his work that I have seen. He's really only directed screenplays that he's written himself and I think that he may have a hard time adapting a Potter book into a movie worth viewing.
