This is kind of odd, but very neat to hear about. I am sure JKR is honored to have someone name an asteroid after her. I suppose being a celebrity goes along way.

Is that why they chose her? Because her characters have inspired many children to read? Which is actually a really cool thing to have inspired.
Does she get a picture of the astriod? I am curious what it looks like.
Neat.

Quite an honor yes, but does the 43844 stand for that amount of asteroids ever named? If so I guess they can freely name asteroids after anything if there are nearly 44,000 of them.

So cool for JKR...I think I remember reading in a magazine article somewhere that you send off and have an asteroid named after you (I think it was an article describing unusual Valentine day gifts *giggle*).

Wow, how cool for JK to have an asteroid named after her! It shows how far and wide this HP story is loved. And the Adler Planetarium is located right here in good ole Chicago, Illinois (hehe, I know that's in the article, but I just felt like saying it myself =)).

Sweetness! That's quite an honor and really spiffy. I would want to name a Asteroid Neverland, or after J. M. Barrie, or Peter Pan even, but yea, that's pretty neat. Good JK!

Of course Jo should have an asteroid named after her. She has single-handedly returned reading to children's vocabulary.
I wonder if she is happy to know she literally lives among the stars now?
