Two million paperback versions of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are set to go on sale today
in North America. The book will cost $9.99 and is certain to be a best seller.
Previous releases of the paperback versions have reached the No. 1 spot and actually spent more time at that spot than the original hardcover versions.
On a side note, the The Kids and Family Reading Report, released by Yankelovich and Scholastic found that
:
...both kids and their parents credit the popular books with getting more kids to read for fun and with helping kids do better in school. Just over half (51%) of Harry Potter readers ages 5-17 years old say they did not read books for fun before they started reading Harry Potter, but now they do, and 65% say they have been doing better in school since they started reading the series. Parents see an even greater impact. The vast majority of parents (89%) say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child enjoy reading more, and 76% say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child do better in school.
Yankelovich
is a leader in consumer trends tracking and Scholastic
, is a children's publishing, education and media company which publishes the Harry Potter series in America.

I totaly agree with helping people read. My little brother hated reading and would do anything to get out of it. Then he had to read harry potter for school and now he loves to read. I'm really happy that jkr wrote these books!

I just can't wait until the paperback is released, I have to pay 3 times as much to read it almost a year sooner. I guess it's a trade off, I just wish I didn't spend so much money on books. Well, last one!

I love the books and so do my children. My son is one of those children who would never have read for fun. Now he read all the time, not just Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit. Ms Rowling has really opened up the world of reading for him.

I know I wasn't into reading much until the HP series. I've noticed too how much my friends and family have started to read more because of them. Now that we are between books and we are all anxious to be reading I've seen them picking up other things now.
I know a lot of people are upset about the books and don't agree with their content, but they have to admit, this is sort of the first time books have been a fad. At least not that I can remember. Go Jo!

Thats cool. I already have the hardback so I'm not going to buy it. I couldn't wait an extra year to read the book just to save a few extra dollars. I guess you could check out a the book from the library but that takes a long time because so many people do that.

That's so strange... I can't believe how long it took for the paperback edition to come out... but I don't care. I've long since read it (three times) and have my wonderful hardcover version.

Nice statistics.
I have already proudly purchased my copy at the local bookstore, having pestered the man putting them on the shelf to reach me one before the large crowd of people behind got to the display (the store only had about twenty copies). But anyway, it's wonderful and I'm looking forward to rereading it again. What can I say...you can never have enough Harry.

That's cool. I don't usually buy the HP books in paperback because hardcovers last longer. But I hope the sales are good. HP deserves that.

I find those polls very informative. Even though I have always loved to read, I think that it's brilliant that J.K. Rowling's books have helped children like to read. On top of that, I truly believe that these books have helped children do better in school. Being interested in the Potter Series sort of helps you strive to do more, to learn more, to have that interest in all aspects of your life. I'm amazed that these books have intrigued children into becoming better people. I know that Harry Potter has become the most important part of my life. I thrive while reading the words of Jo's books because it gives me feeling, intense feeling, with all of the lovely twists and turns that Jo feeds us. Not many authors can intrigue people the way that she does, and I'm glad that people are recognizing it.

I already got the hardback. I wanted to wait for the paper back since all my other ones are in paperback, but just couldn't wait. I think I will get it anyway becasue I lend my copy out so much, it would be nice to keep my hardback in good condition.
