Two million paperback versions of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are set to go on sale today
in North America. The book will cost $9.99 and is certain to be a best seller.
Previous releases of the paperback versions have reached the No. 1 spot and actually spent more time at that spot than the original hardcover versions.
On a side note, the The Kids and Family Reading Report, released by Yankelovich and Scholastic found that
:
...both kids and their parents credit the popular books with getting more kids to read for fun and with helping kids do better in school. Just over half (51%) of Harry Potter readers ages 5-17 years old say they did not read books for fun before they started reading Harry Potter, but now they do, and 65% say they have been doing better in school since they started reading the series. Parents see an even greater impact. The vast majority of parents (89%) say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child enjoy reading more, and 76% say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child do better in school.
Yankelovich
is a leader in consumer trends tracking and Scholastic
, is a children's publishing, education and media company which publishes the Harry Potter series in America.

Wow, that's really cheap! Too bad I'm not in America! But I personally prefer hardbacks anyway.

Wow, that's really cool! I doubt that I will buy one but if I ever need a copy for a long trip and I don't feel like lugging around my hardcover book, maybe I'll go ahead and purchase this one!

That's really great. I preordered the hardcopy, but for some people that just doesn't make sense. Now, more people can enjoy this amazing book!

Sweet!!! I love when books come out in paperback because then you can buy them and you don't have to be that careful about taking care of the book like the hard cover books... <333

Really? I would've thought people would buy the book when it comes out, not wait for the paperback version. Or, if that's not the case - what would you do with two copies???

For another 10 bucks you could have got the hard cover. Oh well, maybe this will save some from carpal tunnel syndrome.

That's cool. I don't buy the paperbacks though. I don't see the point if I have the hardcover. After the 7th book comes out I might be buying my self a complete new set. Some of my books are starting to look horrible! I guess that they do look pretty good considering how many times they've been read and traveled with me but still, I want a brand new set. Maybe I'll get a paperback set then.

I can't wait to get it! I have been waiting for the book to come out for so long and now I can get it. I have so glad that I reserved a copy because I don't think I would have been able to get a copy if I hadn't.
I can't wait to get it!.

While I prefer the hardback versions, having a paperback or two around for casual reading, saves wear on the 'good' copy.

Doesn't everyone already have the hardcover, though? Why would you wait so long for the paperback?

I prefer hardback for myself, but my kids are getting to the age of reading HP, so paperback is perfect for them.

Boy, with the initial price of the Hard Back being around $17.99 (or less) when it first came out, why would one wait a year for the book. Glad to see it coming out, just one more indication that Book 7 is on the way.

Actually that's a bit expensive for a paperback. Maybe it's thicker than I'm thinking it would be. Not that it would matter, I already have two copies of HBP, one of them being the special edition. I would never buy these books in paperback, partly because I buy all the books in my favorite series in hardback when they're available and partly because it's so easy to bend the spine on a paperback. It's very cool for people to now have the option though.

Number 1 for longer than the hardback? No offence, but that's weird. I like the hardback versions better, the paperbacks look too small.

It's a wonderful thing.
Paper back are not upto the hardback as the incidents in the hardbsck edition are large in number. But the paperbacks are also good . The wonderful narration of JKR are not much in the paper backs. But the one who needs to know only the story and donn't want to enjoy the story may like the paperback edition.

Actually I might just get a paperback version, my hardcover one has been through the mill this year w/ all the people borrowing it =] I would NEVER wait this long for the paperback edition, thats too much & you'd get everything spoiled.

If I hadn't already read, reread, and loaned my hardback to all my friends, I would totally buy the paperback version. But now, it seems kinda pointless.
