Warner Bros. has confirmed to HPANA that it plans to pull all of the first four Harry Potter DVDs off store shelves by early 2007, with no announced plans for their return.
Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban will become unavailable after December 29, 2006. Goblet of Fire will follow suit on February 9, 2007.
First reported by Home Media Retailing Magazine
, the move may indicate WB's interest in stoking sales this non-Potter holiday season, or preparing for newer editions of the films on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray technology.
Called a "moratorium," the practice is commonplace in the home video industry. The most notable instigator is Disney, which often locks away movies in their "vault" to stimulate sales and publicity.
Thanks to Matthew for the tip.

SO Disney!!!
They'll "vault" them for so many years, then some new video technology will come out, they'll remaster, them reissue them, and make millions, trillions and zillions.
If you're so worried about not being able to buy replacements, rush out and buy extras, like they want us to do, and you'll be safe. Marketing...what a racket!!! I know my husband works advertising. It's all to stimulate sales and make more money.

Um, well I don't really understand what HD-DVD or Blu-Ray technology mean, but it seems a stupid step to me to remove the normal dvds. It is just senseless. People buy them all the time. There are some statistics sure revealing how many children or adult get to know Harry Potter every week and these people behind the numbers will surely will want to see the film, and thus will buy the dvds. Well, anyway, if they hit the market with new, higher quality versions there's no problem.
Hugs,

That's really intresting. I wonder why they are going to do that? Does that mean that those DVDs arnt selling? Does it mean that when the 7th and final DVD would come out thens Warbor Bors would relaise them all in one big box set? Who knows?

Well, yeah. Wait, huh? Oh, I thought that article heading meant that they'd all be on shelves by 2007, but then I was like, that doesn't make sense. But why? That's so lame. Suppose I lose mine? Well, I guess we'll all have to resort to piracy then... What a stupid thing to do.

What Warner Bros. is trying to extract even more money from the Potter fanbase? Doesn't sound like a big greedy hollywood studio to me. Shame on you WB. How pathetic.

Totally unnecessary. They are just trying to milk more money out of this relative failure of a movie franchise.

Yecch, that kinda stinks. If they're looking to boost sales, it will probably work though as people who dont own the whole set will be rushing out to buy the copies they're missing (like me). It's really weird though that they would do that so soon-especially since GOF hasn't been out that long.

I think that is really stupid.
What if people want to buy them and they are not available. It is suppossed to build anticipation and make more money for the company but it would cut profits for not having them out all year long.
