Rowling partially 'relieved' to be at the end Popular (22301)

Earlier this morning, Harry Potter author JK Rowling attendedopens in new window a press conference ahead of her charity reading with Stephen King and John Irving. At the press conference Ms. Rowling commented that she will have to go through a bereavement process when finished writing the last book in the series.

On the one hand, I am going to feel sad. Harry's been an enormous part of my life and it's been a turbulent phase of my life and he was always the constant.

So there will be a sense of bereavement.

But there will also be a sense of liberation because there are pressures involved in writing something as popular.

Wonderful though it's been, I think that there will also be a certain freedom in escaping that particular part of writing Harry Potter.

When asked about the two deaths that she previously mentioned, Ms. Rowling said:

I guess some people will loathe it, some people will love it.

You can now see pictures hereopens in new window from the event.

Meanwhile, John Irving and Stephen King urgedopens in new window Ms. Rowling not to kill of Harry off in the last installment, but Rowling made no promises.

UPDATE: Veritaserum has posted the full audio of the press conference.

UPDATE II: Video of the press conference can be seen hereopens in new window.

It is just a miracle how such a platitude like this sentence can start so many discussions, it is something only JKR can achieve.

There are a lot of possibilities, but it seems that Snape and Draco are the most obvious choices. A lot of people love them, a lot of people hate them....

But these deaths were only additional deaths, so I don't think that she refers to either Harry or Voldemort....

GIVE US BOOK 7!!!

I think that we will all be grieving when we turn that last page. What a strange moment that will be.

I also think that Snape is doomed!

Oh my gosh! I am so glad that my beloved Stephen King does not want Harry to die even though he is a twisted and genious soul. Yeah, that sounds wicked but it's life. I really hope that it's not people I love but it most likely will be won't it? Life sucks.

You go John Irving and Stephen King!!! I hope JK heeds their urging not to kill off Harry!

I understand JK's bereavement...we shall also go through a similiar process as the last book is released. We shall miss the excitement of wondering what is next.

I feel excitment mounting as we get closer to the last book and next movie. I can't wait but I also don't want it to end too soon either. A catch 22, I guess...

It's a really crucial crunch time now! JKR has even such distinguished authors as King and Irving, here's hoping tha she heeds their advice. At least this is some news on how JKR and the book are coming along.

Well if I was her, I'd be sad as well. Harry has indeed been a large part of her life as well as our lives. I will miss Harry after the last book/movie are out. And although I hope she allows him to live, I think she's going to kill him off just so no one will be able to urge her to write another Harry Potter book.

I got a little apprehensive when she said that some people will loathe it and some will love it, I certainly hope I will be in the people who love it group! I, along with King and Irving, really hope Harry doesn't die and I think that it's fantasic that King and Irving are fans of Harry and Jo as they are great writers themselves.

I will also be sad when the series is over because there will be no more books to look forward to! Knowing that it's over! = ( I'm too used to waiting and being excited for a new book, I don't want it to stop! = )

Her argument here is making me believe that someone like Snape will die... If some are happy with a death, that would not be a character like Hermione or Ron, but I can't think about another dying person... Neville? There's just too much answers into that last book!
