Author JK Rowling explicitly clarified tonight on her final appearance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City that Dumbledore is "definitely" dead.
ยป UPDATE: Transcripts of both evenings are now available.
She, along with Stephen King and John Irving, hosted another 6,000 people as they read from their books to raise money for charity. Rowling surprised fans with several tantalizing tidbits about the finale of her popular Harry Potter series.
While the authors all read from the same passages of their books as last night, their introductions were handled by different surprise celebrities. Actor-director Tim Robbins (who starred in The Shawshank Redemption) introduced King and Stanley Tucci welcomed Irving.
Rowling was brought on stage (again to standing ovation) by Kathy Bates, who proclaimed that the author took kids to places "Google does not go," describing the effect Rowling's books have had in shaping an entire generation of digital-age kids. At first fearful of the prospect of seeing the Potter books be made into the very digital creations they were meant to draw children away from (at the same time ruining imagination with special effects), Bates said fans "faithfully returned to the books" after seeing their incarnations light up the silver screen, and that Rowling had created "readers for life."
One audience member greeted Jo by yelling "Don't kill Harry," to which Jo responded: "Oh, no pressure then."
Tonight's audience was treated with much more informative and revealing answers than yesterday. Here are a few highlights (again, paraphrased):
Rowling later revealed that while she thought she had settled on a title for book 7, a new one occurred to her in the shower this afternoon. She declined to elaborate.
She also suggested there were to be plot twists in book 7 that she didn't think anyone has already or could possibly guess about.
Stephen King, reponding to a question about what he is afraid of, said: "When I picked up the Harry Potter books, I was surprised at the depth of the deatheaters." To which Rowling replied tauntingly: "I scared Stephen King."

Thought 1- Yes J.K. says that dumbledore is dead but he will also play a role in book 7 so this is what I think ok, Albus dumbledore is dead but maybe his brother I ant think of his name right now maybe he is the dumbledore that is going to help him he hasnt been mentioned much in the books so far but maybe the last book is where he comes out and this is his time to help Harry.
Thought 2- Or this could happen Albus Dumbledore and his brother could have taken some polyjuice potion and basically switched places and it was actually albus' brother who was with harry the whole time he tookk harry to the cave he drank from the cauldron and last but not least he is the one who died because he knew it was better for the wizarding world so those are my thoughts.

I don't find this at all suprising. Dumbledore had to die (as did sirius), since the seventh book is a coming of age book. As Harry said, he has to do this without people to protect him. As for the plot twists she mentioned, no one can ever guess her plot twists.

Breaks my heart! I was hoping the clues showed that he was alive and in hiding, waiting to help Harry in the end. But I guess she knows what she's doing.

Well, I've always been in the Dumbledore is Dead camp. It's nice to hear that at least in that sense I'm right. I'm sure she'll throw some twist, but I never thought (and really hoped she wouldn't surprise me) that she would bring him back. That just goes against everything she and Dumbledore have said on death.

Well, I am sure that after reready all the books twice that I feel that even thow Dumbledore is dead that people have forgotten he was Headmaster of Hogwarts and that his picture will be put up on the walls with the other Headmaster and people will be able to talk with him as Dumbldore has talk with the other Headmaster in the past 6 books.

Well hopefully this will slow down all the rumors that dumbledore is still alive (although I doubt that). What I really want to know is about Aunt Petunia.

Well, I don't know if I have come to terms with it yet, but I do understand the concept of the hero going on alone when their mentor dies....some part of my mind will always live in dream land...I hope his portrait does a lot of talking and advising.

Sorry for the double post, but I don't see an edit button here...I also wondered what JKR was thinking when King and Irving begged her not to kill off Harry...was it foreshadowing that she plans to kill him, or publicity to keep people guessing???

The news that Dumbledore is "definitely dead" totally undermines my current theories for Book Seven:-( I thought that a lot of what was written on "dumbledoreisnotdead.com" had great potential to be proven right:'(

Dumbledore is dead. Good, glad we got that settled. The rest of the information is intriguing, and it seems to me that Aunt Petunia will have some sort of added importance in the last book. The shower is also a very good place to think.

I can't believe that she will actually confirm that he is dead, it seems so out of character that she would say something definite. I don't want him to be dead, at least she should have told us if he'll be there in one way or another. As a portrait or something like that.
