Author JK Rowling explicitly clarified tonight on her final appearance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City that Dumbledore is "definitely" dead.
ยป UPDATE: Transcripts of both evenings are now available.
She, along with Stephen King and John Irving, hosted another 6,000 people as they read from their books to raise money for charity. Rowling surprised fans with several tantalizing tidbits about the finale of her popular Harry Potter series.
While the authors all read from the same passages of their books as last night, their introductions were handled by different surprise celebrities. Actor-director Tim Robbins (who starred in The Shawshank Redemption) introduced King and Stanley Tucci welcomed Irving.
Rowling was brought on stage (again to standing ovation) by Kathy Bates, who proclaimed that the author took kids to places "Google does not go," describing the effect Rowling's books have had in shaping an entire generation of digital-age kids. At first fearful of the prospect of seeing the Potter books be made into the very digital creations they were meant to draw children away from (at the same time ruining imagination with special effects), Bates said fans "faithfully returned to the books" after seeing their incarnations light up the silver screen, and that Rowling had created "readers for life."
One audience member greeted Jo by yelling "Don't kill Harry," to which Jo responded: "Oh, no pressure then."
Tonight's audience was treated with much more informative and revealing answers than yesterday. Here are a few highlights (again, paraphrased):
Rowling later revealed that while she thought she had settled on a title for book 7, a new one occurred to her in the shower this afternoon. She declined to elaborate.
She also suggested there were to be plot twists in book 7 that she didn't think anyone has already or could possibly guess about.
Stephen King, reponding to a question about what he is afraid of, said: "When I picked up the Harry Potter books, I was surprised at the depth of the deatheaters." To which Rowling replied tauntingly: "I scared Stephen King."

I can't believe that she will actually confirm that he is dead, it seems so out of character that she would say something definite. I don't want him to be dead, at least she should have told us if he'll be there in one way or another. As a portrait or something like that.

I had always hoped he might be alive but I knew deep down he was most likely dead for good. But this is besides the point. Why would JKR ruin the suspense of telling us about this. Some things are best left as a surprise. I wonder if this information she has provided might mean she is near completion of the book.

Hahaha, This was a good article. I wish i could have been there to see it. I thinks its absolutely amazing that she hasnt come up with a title yet for book 7. It seems like she would know all the titles before she even starter writing the books. I wanna know what its gonna be called so bad.

That kinda punctured my bubble because I was hoping that Dumbledore would come back...:( Anyhow, I wonder if Dumbledore will be able to help Harry from/through his painting? Maybe Harry will take to carrying Dumbledore's portrait/picture around with him. (Hey, it's just a thought.) Heehee!

I went on dumbledoreisnotdead when I first read the book a year ago and found it very convincing, although when I re-read the book, I realised that just the fact that his portrait now hangs on the wall in the office was proof that he was dead. I am sad, but I kind of knew it. oh well.....

Still can't beleive he is really dead! But i stil say this is all part of his plan, because i just can't let myself beleive that Snape was really capable of tricking Dumbledore.

I knew DD was dead along time ago; although I was hopping for a better outcome. Well, atleast we, or Harry, can still talk to him in his photograph. I think that's one reason why Harry will return to Hogwarts.

I think Aunt Petunia somehow might save Harry's life, because of JKR's respond to one of the questions.
I love the site DumbledoreIsNotDead. It really made me that he was alive. It sucks that it's not true.
I think Hagrid might die in the next book because she gave a pause before his name, but it could just be me being crazy.
I loved this part of the article, '"Don't kill Harry," to which Jo responded: "Oh, no pressure then."'

I felt it was really natural for Dumbledore to die. It was sort of like a test for Harry. He's lost his parents, his godfather (who was like a parent), and now the only other safety net he has. He's just being forced to become an adult and deal with the issues at hand. Maybe JKR wants to make him emotionally stronger that way. As they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Besides, how interesting would it be if Harry had to fight Voldemort with Dumbledore around, especially since we know Voldemort's scared of Dumbledore.
I support her decision.

Hehehe... she scared Stephen King! That's awesome!
I wonder if Aunt Petunia has some magic in her herself. Maybe not enough to get accepted to Hogwarts, but enough to make some sort of impact if need be.
And boo for Dumbledore being dead. I miss him so much. But I wonder if Harry will be able to talk to his portrait in the Headmaster's Office.

I am so glad she said something! I hate it when people come back to life in books it is such a cop-out - even if it is Dumbledore. I am so jealous of those people who got to see JKR talk - I don't think she'll be comming down my way to Aussie land any day soon unfortunately.
Now that she's finished these talks, let's hope she can concentrate more on writing the book! Or give us a title! Or a chapter title! Or a teeny weeny hint at least!

I just have to say that I'm so happy she finally confirmed that Dumbledore is dead. Not that I wanted it to happen, but completely believed he was. Now we can get back to other potential outcomes instead of always comming back to this debate.

Umm....What can I say, so much information. Kay.
First- I always thought that Dumbledore was dead. Yes it is very sad to hear but why would she kill such an important character and then bring him back to life.
Second- I like her answers to the questions they asked her, and i totally agree with her everyone needs a Hagrid in their life. Come on its Hargid!
Third- I am very intersted in finding out the 7th book title, I really want to find out. I cant wait any longer. Haha
And thats all I have to say!!

I always wondered about Aunt Petunia. She doesn't seem to scold Harry as much as Uncle Vernon and she is his blood relative. If she didn't feel some kind of bond to him before he came to live on Privet Drive, she might have after Dumbledore's letter. As much as she was jealous and disliked her sister, Lily still was her family. That's got to count for something, right?!
