Author JK Rowling explicitly clarified tonight on her final appearance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City that Dumbledore is "definitely" dead.
ยป UPDATE: Transcripts of both evenings are now available.
She, along with Stephen King and John Irving, hosted another 6,000 people as they read from their books to raise money for charity. Rowling surprised fans with several tantalizing tidbits about the finale of her popular Harry Potter series.
While the authors all read from the same passages of their books as last night, their introductions were handled by different surprise celebrities. Actor-director Tim Robbins (who starred in The Shawshank Redemption) introduced King and Stanley Tucci welcomed Irving.
Rowling was brought on stage (again to standing ovation) by Kathy Bates, who proclaimed that the author took kids to places "Google does not go," describing the effect Rowling's books have had in shaping an entire generation of digital-age kids. At first fearful of the prospect of seeing the Potter books be made into the very digital creations they were meant to draw children away from (at the same time ruining imagination with special effects), Bates said fans "faithfully returned to the books" after seeing their incarnations light up the silver screen, and that Rowling had created "readers for life."
One audience member greeted Jo by yelling "Don't kill Harry," to which Jo responded: "Oh, no pressure then."
Tonight's audience was treated with much more informative and revealing answers than yesterday. Here are a few highlights (again, paraphrased):
Rowling later revealed that while she thought she had settled on a title for book 7, a new one occurred to her in the shower this afternoon. She declined to elaborate.
She also suggested there were to be plot twists in book 7 that she didn't think anyone has already or could possibly guess about.
Stephen King, reponding to a question about what he is afraid of, said: "When I picked up the Harry Potter books, I was surprised at the depth of the deatheaters." To which Rowling replied tauntingly: "I scared Stephen King."

Well as sad as it is to hear at the very least we know Dumbledore is dead so people can stop wondering how to bring him back.

I don't know about all that! Jo can be tricky, you know? I mean, "Dumbledore is definitely dead" could mean all kinds of things. :-) Ha! Ok, so maybe not, but I'm horribly stubborn, and determined to believe that there's still a sliver of hope that he's alive.. until I read through book 7 and find out otherwise!
I'm really curious about what the original idea for the title was, and what she thought of today. Hmmm... so many things to think about. I really hope it's released on 7.7.07!
I will DEFINITELY be in line when it's released, which is a first for me, since I didn't even read the books until shortly after HBP came out. I've been making up for lost time! Believe me!

Well if Dumbledore doesn't come back, why did she bother about all that stuff like "hide in death," and the strange changing tomb of Dumbledore.
She really doesn't want to tell us anything. Previously she said Aunt Petunia was not magical, and now she says there is more to Petunia than meets the eye.
I am going to ignore her comments and wait for the book.

Wow. I'm drooling. That information was great!!!!! I am so glad that we have finally gotten some decent nuggets of info on which to chew for awhile. Dumbledore is really dead. Wahh :(
On the other hand, Rowling later revealed that while she thought she had settled on a title for book 7, a new one occurred to her in the shower this afternoon. Guess we're not gonna get the title any time soon, but at least now we know why.
Plot twists. Yay. :D
And she scared Stephen King. That is hilarious.

Tonights questions were defiantly more satisfying than last nights. Who picked what questions are to be asked anyways? So, Dumbledore is indeed dead. Finally that can be put to rest. I've pretty much always believed that he is dead but would still have a presence in the 7th book. Like, you know how Obi-Wan died but was still there? And, I think that JK may of blundered about that comment on who she knows will live or not after saying she would dine with the trio. Oppsy!!

I do believe Dumbledore is really dead. She has stated before that the hero has to go on alone without the mentor.
Of course there are going to be huge twists, do you really think she is going to give us that much of the plot. We have just a little idea of what is to come that was laid out for us in the sixth book.

Just because Dumbledore is dead, doesn't mean he can't talk and communicate with people through his portrait in the headmasters office. I feel he'll still be there to give advice. This is great, a few more tid-bits of information to feed our imaginations. Thank you Ms. Rowling! Blessings! Hecate3fold!
