It was announced this weekend at the Edinburgh International Film Festival that Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe will star in the British TV station ITV's production of My Boy Jack, the true story of Rudyard Kipling and his son Jack who was tragically killed during the First World War. Filming of the drama will take place next summer and be screened next autumn on ITV.
Dan had this to say about this new venture:
For many people my age, the First World War is just a topic in a history book. But, I've always been fascinated by the subject and think its as relevant today as it ever was with young men all over the world still sacrificing their lives in the name of war.
I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like in the trenches, living amongst the stench of death and knowing that at any moment it may be your last. But, I think its important we try to imagine the horrors these young men experienced and to never forget them.
I am extremely proud to be part of the production of My Boy Jack and only hope I can do justice to the memory of the men who fought and those who died.
The drama was written by and will also star actor/writer David Haig
.

Daniel, in a WWI movie? Sort of hard pituring that. I'm absolutley positively sure I will NEVER get to see it, of course; there's no ITV where I come from, I'm afraid. Oh well, that's the way of the world.

Cool! Both Rupert and Daniel are going to be on ITV dramas. I'll be watching of course. I did see one of those kind of montages of the ITV drama film things a few days ago (maybe when I was watching the X factor) and Driving Lessons was in it. So yeah, I will be waiting to see when I can watch!

wheezy's gal, you are the same Jesi and some other name in veritaserun writing the same stuff over and over in all the HP sites, annoying really...one thing for sure is that the people who were bashing Rupert for getting a role in a ITV series cannot say to many bad things about Dan in this project, why? well because ITV is not producing this 2 hour Film, Ecosse Film are the ones who are producing it, and if you check their website they have tons of awards and nominations Oscars, BAFTA and Golden Globes, so right there that is a HUGE plus for Dan, so please stop been all annoying and stop hating on Dan!

I've always enjoyed watching war movies. Well, that doesn't sound quite right. I hate war. The very idea turns my stomach and leaves it in knots, but as long as there is the actuality of war people have to see it. They have to know what has come before. Too many simply turn away, ignore the reality of it, that thousands...millions have died for the things we all take for granted today. It's nice to see someone so young feel passionately about the subject matter.

I think this is an amazing opportunity for Dan. and I just hope that everyone who sees the movie is not expecting "Harry Potter", but that they see Dan's character and realize that he is not just Harry Potter, but can spread his wings with acting.

Wowww this just annoys me...daniel reallly annoys mee. He probably wont do harry potter 6 and 7 causee he is so busy. This annoys me because even though actors arent required to do all the moviesss they most definitly should. It is there obligation to be truthful to the boook and they are gunna have to get a new harry. I tell you dont you have the guts daniel to stick to your duty..
this might annoy people but it just annoys me how daniel is just gunna leavee and all of you know the movies arent gunna be the same.

Ainhoa says:
hey Krum, don't worry :) Dan said in a recent interview that he wants to film HBP, the only thing he needs is that the script does justice to the book, so I suppose we'll have to wait they finish the script. I think it's great Dan cares about the books so much, he really wants they do the books justice.
Others don't care and have accepted before reading the script, I'm not sure that's something good, but everyone is different.
Anyway, people don't worry if you don't live in UK and you want to see this movie. ITV will show it in the UK, but that doesn't mean that Ecosse Film producers won't sell it to other channels in other countries. I've seen many UK tv movies, like David Copperfield where Dan was great, in the tv channels of my country, so I'm sure we'll see this one too. :D
