It was announced this weekend at the Edinburgh International Film Festival that Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe will star in the British TV station ITV's production of My Boy Jack, the true story of Rudyard Kipling and his son Jack who was tragically killed during the First World War. Filming of the drama will take place next summer and be screened next autumn on ITV.
Dan had this to say about this new venture:
For many people my age, the First World War is just a topic in a history book. But, I've always been fascinated by the subject and think its as relevant today as it ever was with young men all over the world still sacrificing their lives in the name of war.
I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like in the trenches, living amongst the stench of death and knowing that at any moment it may be your last. But, I think its important we try to imagine the horrors these young men experienced and to never forget them.
I am extremely proud to be part of the production of My Boy Jack and only hope I can do justice to the memory of the men who fought and those who died.
The drama was written by and will also star actor/writer David Haig
.

I don't suppose it'll be aired in the US, will it? We have digital cable and a few of the channels are english...hopefully they'll put the reruns on one of those.

I think some American tv channel will buy the rights to show it in USA. The same with other countries, that's what always happens. ^^

Wow!! I had to admit that was very touching on what he said about war! If I had 1 wish I would say no more war. It's silly just to die for the sake of religious beliefs and revenge on the deaths the other side caused. The world is starting to collapse if we keep up like this. I side with the U.S. and the U.K. because on 9/11 it was a terrorist attack, bombs in a subway in London, 10 planes planned to blow up above water traveling from the U.K. to the U.S. however it had failed, United Nations building had bombs planted in 2 cars nearby that however had failed. See my reasons, now is the time to have friends who care in order to get through these times, however if you feel like you don't trust your new friends then it is okay not to hang around them. You are not forced to be their friend, just remember that.

Hmm, so Dan dies in this movie, I hope he doesn't die on any other ones. *wink* *wink* :P Well, I hope JK spares us the tears and lets him win the final battle. Thsi sounds liek a good movie. I mean, we all know about WWII, but WWI? Well, speaking for myself alone, at least, it's like it never happened.

That sounds really cool...I'm excited about some clips that HPANA should have when they're filming...
The first World is certainly less talked about, but the second couldn't have happened without it, for sure.

Way to go, Dan! I'm am so glad he's taking on roles other than HP. I'm sure he'll be brilliant, I only wish I could see it here in the US. And following up My Boy Jack from Equus is a really smart move. I hope we see him doing lots and lots of films. I'm not worried about him not continuing on as Harry, he's taking off from school so the films won't take as long to do anymore. He'll have plenty of time, he's just keeping himself really busy.

He is right in saying that about the First World War, in th UK you get a brief bit in primary school about the second world war, but with the first all I know is the bit about the poppy fields!
Cant wait to see it!

Good on Dan I hope it goes well. WWI is always something people forget as its not as recent as WWII but so may people died during those 4 years.
For those of you who asked,ITV is a commercial channel here in the UK, normally on channel 3 and is free to all people who have a tv licence (have to have one to watch telly in this country - it funds the BBC , long story). ABC and other channels in US have previously brought programmes from ITV but you'll have to see if they buy my boy jack.
Hope that helps
