Dan Radcliffe

Daniel to star in ITV drama Popular (6204)

It was announced this weekend at the Edinburgh International Film Festival that Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe will star in the British TV station ITV's production of My Boy Jack, the true story of Rudyard Kipling and his son Jack who was tragically killed during the First World War. Filming of the drama will take place next summer and be screened next autumn on ITV.

Dan had this to say about this new venture:

For many people my age, the First World War is just a topic in a history book. But, I've always been fascinated by the subject and think its as relevant today as it ever was with young men all over the world still sacrificing their lives in the name of war.

I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like in the trenches, living amongst the stench of death and knowing that at any moment it may be your last. But, I think its important we try to imagine the horrors these young men experienced and to never forget them.

I am extremely proud to be part of the production of My Boy Jack and only hope I can do justice to the memory of the men who fought and those who died.

The drama was written by and will also star actor/writer David Haigopens in new window.

It will be interesting to see Dan in a different role to Harry Potter. ITV usually do a good job with their Drama series, so I am sure that this film will be very good too.

Tina2005, first of all its no secret to those who wish to know me that Jesi and wheezy's gal (my forum name) is one and the same. Secondly, you amuse me even more because you are annoyed at something that you also do more often than I, which is go to other sites to make negative comments (about Rupert in your case). And if you read what I wrote -- I'm not hating on Dan but rather noting some of his fans' double-standard attitude and hypocrisy.

THAT would have to be pretty werid, first you star in a movie were the only thing you do is magic. Then you move off to a movie where you play a war victom.

wheezy's gal, you don't know if people who made those comments where Dan's fans, they could have even been Rupert's fans too.
I doubt it was Dan's fans, because if you go to the forums of sites like DR.com or DR.co.uk you will be able to read only good comments about Rupert, we even wished him a Happy birthday.

Maybe you haven't stopped for a moment to think that you can be wrong. You haven't even stopped to think that Rupert's fans have a double-standard many times too.
And you have not stopped to think that you can not even compare these news because this is not an ITV production, they will only show it. And if you stop and read what people who wrote those comments are telling you, not only in this site but in all the HP sites you have written, you will understand why they did those comments, they explaining it to you, and you are not even listening to them, you don't bother to see if you can be wrong or not. Many where expressing their fear that he would do a comedy series or something like that, they were not even bashing. They were caring about him, so they are his fans.
Please, think about it before start insulting all of us, many of us are not hypocritical.
And if you are a fan of one actor, I'm sure you don't talk about him in the same way you talk about others, everyone is biased, it's normal.
Plus, if you think something is unfair, sorry, but that's like life is. I read many unfair things and comments everyday (I read Rupert's fans bashing Dan and Emma everyday), and I have to live with it, you have to accept it too, you can ignore them like many of us do.

I've been reading more things about Kipling's life, it's very interesting and tragic. He received the Nobel Prize of Literature in 1907. I'm surprised they haven't done a movie about it before.
His son Jack (John was his real name, but he called him Jack) was almost blind. But his father used his influence "to secure him a commission in the Irish Guards, John himself was just as keen to be accepted as a soldier."
In the play David Haig imagine how the soldiers "greeted the privileged young man who was neither Irish nor Catholic and takes us into the trenches, and gives us a picture of the young man's isolation on his last day, a day raining so hard that he can hardly see with his glasses on.".

I suppose the movie will be centered in how Kipling tried to use his influence to find his son's body:
"Haig's piece touches on the ceaseless heartache of the families of soldiers classified as missing in action."

I am so impressed by Dan's thoughts and opinions, and the way he has approached both Equus and My Son Jack. He is so smart and eloquent, and has matured into a wonderful and compassionate young man! What a great role model he is for other young people his age, and adults could learn a thing or two from him, as well!

SnapesSorceress--Really disappointed that we won't get My Son Jack here in the States

Ainhoa, thank you for your matured comment about this whole thing. Of course I'm not generalizing. Whatever I said is directed only to those who are guilty of it and they know who they are.

Sorry but I don't go to any of Dan's sites -- but I've encountered a lot of Dan's fans who even go to Rupert's fansites just to slight him -- I think this is where the difference lies.

My issue is that these people who commented negatively about Rupert's supposed ITV project is passing judgment too quickly without even knowing for sure yet what is actually being talked about by BBC and ITV in their news release.

You are right about the unfairness, and I've ignored these things too many times for quite a long time. It is only now that I went around to speak about it because it is happening far too many times and its like no less than discrimination, an issue I also feel strongly about. But yeah, you are also right, maybe it is better for me and all of Rupert's fans to start ignoring it once again :)

Thta's great, wow, congradulations to Dan :) must be really excited anad happy to be part of it, and he should she proud and happy because it's what do and he likes doing it.
Also, now that we've heard about Dan and Rupert doing other films, how about Emma, I mean, I mean want to see her act in another film too :D something that she doesn't haveto wear costumes and where she can dress as herself :D that would be so exciting. She has to be more heard because we're only hearing about Dan and Rupert, not that it's a bad thing :P but we love Emma too and we want to see her more :D
I'm just hope that Emma would soon perform in another film rather than Harry Potter, as much as we love her as Hermione, we still like to see her in other films :D well unless she's concentrating on her studies, than that would be alright :P
Anyways I'm happy for Dan and everyone else in the Harry Potter films who's doing what they do and entertaining the audience...love you all <3 :D
