While on a press junket for his new movie Tideland, director Terry Gilliam
answered questions as to why he hasn't directed a Harry Potter movie or if he will in the future.
When asked
if he would direct any of the movies, he said:
No. It's a factory job, is what it is. I don't like that. It's a big operation the way they run it now, and it's so heavily controlled by the studio, considering the kind of work i want to do. But it doesn't stop people on the web fantasizing about me doing the last one.
According
to Mr. Gilliam Prisoner was the best in the series so far:
MTV: What would your Potter have been like?
Gilliam: Alfonso Cuaron's [Prisoner of Azkaban] is really good, but the first two I thought were just shite. They missed the whole point of it; they missed the magic of it ... Alfonso did something much closer to what I would've done.
Thanks to Tim and TLC
for the links.

Who does he think he is? I just checked him out and I'm sure he did fine for Monty Python, but I can't see him doing anything for Harry Potter.
Ther first two movies were the best for me because they followed the books closely. I can understand things being cut because of time in the third and forth, but I would have really liked it if they followed more of the story.
There's just too much missing from them and from what I've been reading there's going to be a lot missing from film five. Too bad though. Blessings! Hecate3fold!

Personally, I completely disagree with this critic. I do not think POA was in any way the best. In fact, I prefered the first two. However, it's not that I don't respect his opinion on that (obviously everyone will like things differently), it's the way he talks about them. They shouldn't let him direct if he talks about any aspect of Harry Potter in that way!

He has GOT to be kidding. The third one was the WORST!!! The second the best and the fourth and first after that. this guy is crazy. I don't want to know what Harry Potter would be like if HE directed it. The third movie was totally unfaithful to the book. I mean if a movie is based on a book like Harry Potter it should stay as faithful as possible!!! Grrrr!!! CRAZY PEOPLE!!!

Haha! Terry Gilliam looks so funny in that picture of him. Anyways, yeah I can imagine why he wouldn't want to direct a film like that, but still...he's missing out.

Well...the third one was pretty good, but I'm guessing that the first and second one were meant to be more like the books instead of a whole other story.

Well, he has a point: Alfonso's Prisoner of Azkaban was the best one so far. It was beautifully directed, with the emphasis on the right elements of the story. Also the acting was more natural in POA.

Terry Gilliam said that he didn't like the first two Harry Potter movies and that the trird one was better.
Well I did like the first two and didn't like the parts of the third one.
The silly noise that was make when a spell was being done. The high pitched shrill that happened when a dementor came near Harry sounded like a train whistel not his mothers final cries. The little bird fluttering around, what was that all about. Dumbledore talking about strawberrys on the hill side.????
I guess you cant please all of the people all of the time.

he is a knuckle head. I like the first two movies. I think he jsut lost any chance of being on a Harry Potter movie. I think it is his lost and not our. I also find the picture a bit creepy. Let me revise that... I think it is one of the creepiest things I have seen. That sweater is enough to make me run for it.

Well POA was beautifully filmed even though it did leave out alot of the book. Alfonso really set the mood well, and he DIRECTED it he didn't write the script or screenplay. But Chris Columbus also did a great job introducing us to the films. And Mike Newell wasn't bad either. But POA is still my fave because Alfonso directed it how I imagined it. I'm not very familiar with Terry Gilliam's films (?)

I don't get this guy and I wish to make a few points.
1) The first 2 were the best adaptations from the book to the movies.
2)As for Cuaron, he did a terrible job. Have you looked at the deleted scenes? Oh look the seasons are changing. Gee we couldn't tell that from oh, looking over the shoulders of the people in the scene. I mean, seriously.
3)If he feels that he needs to change the book so much to fit his image, then he knows absolutely nothing about HP and he doesn't deserve to have the chance to direct.
4)Besides, there's this magical thing that he's suffering from. It's called jealousy.

blkswansec, you totaly got the point across! I agree with you totaly. This guy obviously doesn't understand that HP books! Jealous totaly. And quite full of himself! I've never even heard of him! Wow. I wouldn't change anything about the movie except to include all the scenes. I could watch the HP movies even if they were 10 hours long! Anywho, hi fives to all the HP fans! From one US citizen to you Brits! Just kidding! I love England.

Well, JKR had the most control over the 1st movie out of all of them, and she was thrilled with it. So she obviously doesn't agree that it "missed the point". He's an idiot. A jealous idiot.

Ugh. His arrogance makes me sick. The first two films were actually set up quite within the scape of canon and Cuaron made PoA darker, because thats where it needed to be. Gilliam is trying to sound like he is too good for the Potter films but in reality he's ticked for not being offered one.
