While on a press junket for his new movie Tideland, director Terry Gilliam
answered questions as to why he hasn't directed a Harry Potter movie or if he will in the future.
When asked
if he would direct any of the movies, he said:
No. It's a factory job, is what it is. I don't like that. It's a big operation the way they run it now, and it's so heavily controlled by the studio, considering the kind of work i want to do. But it doesn't stop people on the web fantasizing about me doing the last one.
According
to Mr. Gilliam Prisoner was the best in the series so far:
MTV: What would your Potter have been like?
Gilliam: Alfonso Cuaron's [Prisoner of Azkaban] is really good, but the first two I thought were just shite. They missed the whole point of it; they missed the magic of it ... Alfonso did something much closer to what I would've done.
Thanks to Tim and TLC
for the links.

Well well, I didn't like the 2 first films either so I can follow his views. I'm not sure that I've seen any of his films, so I can't say weather he'd be good for the films or not.

*sighs* He has a point. They're so ingrained now that to change them would be too hard. I wish he would direct, but kudos to him for wanting to add something more to them.

I thought that POA was the worst of the movies yet. And I also think that the first two were the best.

I personally loved the first two movies, but director Terry Gilliam has a right to his opinion, I suppose. No need to dwell on the negativity, after all there is a new movie to look forward to!

"Wow. Can you say "conceited"? Geeze, a little full of ourselves, aren't we, buddy?
And I have no idea who he is by the way."
I soo agree!!!! I'm glad he didn't get any movies!!
Anyway I really liked how Chris Columbus was so acurate to the books..... I missed that on the last two movies.... much more magical.... much less canon....
Just can't seem to get both......
I'll have to wait to see OotP.

Just because he said that PoA was the best movie doesn't mean that you all start saying it was the worst. In my opinion PoA was one of the better movies in the series.

HELLO People!! For those of you who don't know who Terry Gilliam is, he's ONLY the director who JK Rowling WANTED to direct the movies, at least the first one, in the first place!!! And I agree with him 110%. Even JK Rowling said she liked Azkaban the best, and having signed a contract with Warner Bros., I doubt she would have publicly trashed the first two, no matter what she thought. And I reckon that she knows what the HP books are about better than anyone.

Hmm...he's got a good point. I guess he feels if he can't work to his own full extent, there is really no need to direct any of the last movies. Oh well, we can all still hope.

Well... maybe he should direct any of them then. I mean, I think PoA was my least favourite. It was really... not smooth, kinda like GoF. It was kinda like they were just trying to finish the movie and just throw in all the necessary scenes. I don't understand him fully ...what magic was missing?

I actually liked the Philosophers Stone and the Chamber of Secrets. To be honest the Prisoner of Azkaban wasn't my favorite. Although the Goblet of Fire was good. =)

Gilliam finds that movie one (SS) and two (CS), Shite ?, because he doesn't want to understand that, this was the beginning of her books and for children to do the parts, you can't put them through alot. So, the Point of it all could not of even been known, because all the other books 3-7 weren't writen yet. DUH!

I disagree, I feel that the movies have matured as the age of children following it has. Sorcerers stone was a fun and enchanting movie that eased younger viewers int o the relm of the wizarding world and COS took it just far enough past that. As the movies go forward, and the more dark the books are, the more the films mature and delve into that darkness accordingly.

Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite movie. i think it might have to with Prisoner being my favorite book though.... and that i think Alfonso Cuaron is a great director. But i don't think he should have been so mean about the other directors. it just seemed. like he attacked them a bit.

I agree with him, Alonso has been the best director so far, he captivated the essence of the book and turn it to the movie. I hope he directs the last two, He must.

I totally agree with Gilliam on that one. There first two WERE 'shite' and POA was great. However, I don't really like any of the films, I'm more obsessed with the books.
By the way, for those of you who have said that you don't know who this guy is, he's one of the legendary 6 from Monty Python. He didn't really have an on-screen presence though as he mainly created the animations. Surely you lot have heard of Monty Python?!

I'm very sorry about double posting, but I just saw this message: [b]criticising the movies like he is someone big[/].
The thing is, he really IS someone big. Along with the other 5 (Michael Palin, John Cleese, Graham Chapman (RIP), Terry Jones and Eric Idle) they changed the face of comedy.

I guess he has made some good points and understand what he is saying but I refuse to agree what he said about the first two. I truly didnt fall in love with the third movie because it wasnt as I would have imagined it. It had many good aspects but the first two made me feel like I was actually watching the book come to life and thats why I enoyed them. The thirs one did focus more on magic and that was lovely but it didnt feel like "harry potter" Anyway, thats how I feel.
