Last month we mentioned a rumor that director David Yates had been asked to return to the Harry Potter franchise.
A new rumor has now surfaced
online stating that American director Michael Hoffman
will be directing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Mr. Hoffman has directed Soapdish, One Fine Day and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
An announcement will be made by Christmas, so for now, all we can do is treat this new information as a rumor and wait to hear the official news.
UPDATE: Both of these rumors have been debunked by Warner Bros.

the Harry Potter franchise
I hate it when they call it that. Makes me feel so unoriginal for liking Harry...
It's almost as bad as confessing I like Disney. Which I do, incidentally ;P

I wish they would keep the same director so the movies had a feeling of continuity.

I'm with Newest Mrs. Weasley, I wish they'd get back to the canon principles of the story and that Jo would have more control over the direction of the films. It's kind of disappointing that they are so far having a different director for each film. I wish Alfonso was doing them all!

I dont think they'll have an American director because it'll ruin the whole "English" thing which the books have... America and England are very different...

Rumors, rumors. rumors...Let's quit with the rumors and get some facts. Who will direct the movie?
While I really don't know too much about this Michael Hoffman, his list of credits don't overly impress me. The films listed here do not reallt strick me as ones that would be in the same caliber or genre as Harry Potter. But he could always surprise us...that is if he is really going to be the director.

I've seen a few of his movies and I do like his directing style. As long as the screenwriters are still the same we should be okay.

I just have one thing to say: I want Chris Colombus back for the sixth one. That is how it should really be. I think he is the only one who would be able to grasp the essence of it and create touching moments to the end of it. He is a genious in doing so. This particular book needs to be directed with soul. Really. It is special.

But I will say that we have to wait until the announcement is made before we know anything for sure especially since so much seems to be floating around out there unconfirmed.
