Last month we mentioned a rumor that director David Yates had been asked to return to the Harry Potter franchise.
A new rumor has now surfaced
online stating that American director Michael Hoffman
will be directing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Mr. Hoffman has directed Soapdish, One Fine Day and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
An announcement will be made by Christmas, so for now, all we can do is treat this new information as a rumor and wait to hear the official news.
UPDATE: Both of these rumors have been debunked by Warner Bros.

As much as i love a midsummer nights dream, i dont think that i would appreciate Harry Potter if it had a soapish appeal to it! I say stick with david Yates! Goblet of Fire was my favourite Harry Potter Film so far and before it was Philosophers Stone!

As long as the directors stick to the image Alphonso Curon created with PoA and that stuck through Goblet... I'll be happy.

Interesting. I like the whole changing directors, and if they keep David Yates, they will break the cycle. Of course, if 5 is good, then maybe they want to keep him.

Soapdish was excellent! I had almost forgotten about that movie. I wish that somehow Jo could direct the last two movies, or at least have more control. I love how she ok'ed everything to begin with, but I feel that directors are taking more and more liberties and straying further from canon. Reign them in, Jo!

warner bros. should just offer Martin Scorsese a LOT of money. That wouold be A GREAT movie. I'm tired of all these bad directors. The only one that did a good job was Alfonso Cuaron.

Interesting. The only film of his I have seen in A Midsummer's Night Dream. I didn't like it a whole lot, but I blame that of Shakespeare not Hoffman.

I've seen One Fine Day several times and love that movie. Haven't seen the other two though so I can't really judge how well he would be HBP. If Yates does well with OoTP though I think they should stick with him.

Hmm, haven't seen any of his work so I don't know how well-suited he would be for HBP? I think Yates did a good job though so I'd be happy for him to return. Also, it seems like the actors really like the director they are working with now on OotP (eep I forget his name, but it's on the tip of my tongue!) so I am interested to see how that movie comes out too.

I kinda like how they have a differant Director for each one, but I also would have liked them to pick one and use him or her for all seven. Just like they are trying to do with the actors. How would it look if they changed actors as much as directors? Not good.
