Update: Promotional images of Daniel Radcliffe from 'Equus'

New promotional images featuring Harry Potter actor Dan Radcliffe in his upcoming West End production of Equus are now available for fans.
Producer David Pugh says of Dan:
There was no hesitancy about taking off his clothes.
He has a confidence in his own appearance. With the performances that I've witnessed, when that boy takes his shirt off, Harry Potter has flown out of Hogwarts for good.
Equus, also starring fellow Potter actor Richard Griffiths, begins previews on February 16 and the official opening night is planned for February 27.
Please note that these photos contain quite a bit of bare skin, which has caused a fair bit of concern

I think it's sad how this "naked" thing is overshadowing the play, which is a beautiful and brilliant piece of work, and Daniel's heart to tackle it! If you think EQUUS is a fun romp you are so very mistaken. If you think you will be thinking "Wow! I'm seeing Daniel naked--this is the best thing ever!"--you will be disappointed and disturbed. This play is emotionally exhausting and very difficult to sit through, from beginning to end, and not because of the nudity. Watching this kid go through such mental and emotional anguish is nearly unbearable, and the underlying message (yes there is one, amazingly enough...) is heartbreaking. Perhaps if people would bother to actually read EQUUS (yes, I know that's asking a lot), they would see that there is nothing to giggle about. A friend of mine portrayed "Alan Strang" in a local production 27 years ago and, during his performances, I was so riveted that he ceased to be the guy I hung out with at school everyday.
As for the play itself, it's not some perverted story about a naked kid's sexual attraction to his horse--some of the news reports yesterday and today have made me sick. It's obvious the media is just as immature, uninformed and fixated as most of the public. EQUUS has no place for fangirls, closed minds or children in its audience. And for the people who think it's inappropriate for Daniel to do this, too bad. He's an actor. "Harry Potter" is as much a fictional character as "Alan Strang". If you don't approve, do't go. I, for one, will be at the 17 May show, fully aware of how fortunate I am to be able to see this brilliant play again (after so many years) with this stellar cast.

sugarcake, Dan isn't stripping for attention. If you'd done ANY reading when he first accepted the role, you'd know why.
Alan Strang is a very difficult, very complex role, that HAPPENS to involve doing a naked scene. It isn't porn. It is done artfully, and it is done with more in mind than showing off the skin of a 17 year old boy.
The only thing Dan is trying PROVE is that he can handle a tough role like that. It's about as far away from Harry Potter's fantasy world as one could get, and he wants to show everyone that he ISN'T just Harry Potter. He's a terrific actor, in any role.
Nakedness has zip to do with that, except exciting a few fangirls. Nothing that the bathroom scene in Goblet of Fire didn't do, but oh! JKR probably wrote that scene just to have her main character show skin and get attention for her book, right? The floozy. :P
It's wonderful you have your standards as an actress. They will limit you, but they're important, and you should be applauded for that. But not everyone is as opposed to nude scenes as you are, and to make it out to be something disgraceful and dirty is rather insulting to Dan, and to those with the maturity to handle those sort of scenes.
Nudity =/= porn. Or selling oneself out.

Alright, my fangirl moment is over. Now for some serious insight on these photos.
It takes incredible courage to pose nude, so much more power to Dan. I'm just amazed. It doesn't even look like him in the pictures. He's really becoming an adult and you can tell. It looks like it'll be fantastic, and I can only dream of going to see it.
Again-- Congrats Dan!! It's wonderful to see you branching out into new roles.

I'm impressed that he has already started working on diverging from being Harry Potter and becoming a well-rounded actor. From what I gather, this is a torturous role and a very dark play. It would have to be difficult to do the role.

Those pics are surprising. Isn't it great that we've had the opportunity to see him grow from a little boy to a man?
But my image of him will always be as that little boy in the cupboard under the stairs.
I applaud his courage in steeping outside the "Harry" comfort zone. He will be around for a long time.
