Dan from 'Equus'

Update: Promotional images of Daniel Radcliffe from 'Equus' Popular (386829)

New promotional images featuring Harry Potter actor Dan Radcliffe in his upcoming West End production of Equus are now available for fans.

Producer David Pugh says of Dan:

There was no hesitancy about taking off his clothes.

He has a confidence in his own appearance. With the performances that I've witnessed, when that boy takes his shirt off, Harry Potter has flown out of Hogwarts for good.

Equus, also starring fellow Potter actor Richard Griffiths, begins previews on February 16 and the official opening night is planned for February 27.

Please note that these photos contain quite a bit of bare skin, which has caused a fair bit of concernopens in new window, according to the New York Times:

Thanks to Jenna and Page for the original tips and images.

I don't see anything wrong with Dan breaking out from HP, but the timing is all wrong. He either should have A waited to do this, B a more experianced actor should have done it, or an unknown. I'm telling you it's not going to help him at all. I want Dan to do well and it looks like a good play but again should have waited. Plus his body just isn't developed!

I agree with Ruperts_Nanny. Dan I think should have waited to do stuff like that after the HP is over. One thing is for sure, fans will never look at HP the same way again.

It's just the timing as she said is all wrong and the pics should not be posted on a HP site. He might as well have done a full spread if he's gonna show that much below the waistline. Well, he obviously has no problem nearly baring it all.

Let's call Julie Walters, Ralph Finees, Alan Rickman, Nicole Kidman all immoral, because all those actors have taken their clothes off in theater productions.

So people should not watch the Harry Potter movies because most of the adult actors are sooo immoral!

I applaud Dan for his guts - and if you don't think he can do it then think on this; the playwright Peter Shaffer thought he was fabulous in the workshops, as did the well respected stage director, Thea Sharrock - do you think you know better than they do??

Just out of interest, I wonder how many of the puritanical type comments are coming out of the US - Europeans are so much more open about nudity. It's only a big deal if you make it so.

By the way, he looks absolutely beautiful in those photos.

I don't mind but apparently others do, but they shoulden't because actors take off their shirts all the time. I mean give him a break......he is what seventeen, eighteen!!???

Well, I guess the fact everyone is making such a big deal about his role in Equus is because everyone has seen him grow up from the cute little 11-year-old we first saw him as to now a very adult 17-year-old.
Try looking at his pictures from Equus and then go watch Sorcerer's Stone, weird right?
But poeple will have to eventually just let Harry Potter go, everyone's so fixated on making (and keeping) him the same little boy wizard.
Overall, I'm glad that he's doing the play, Equus, I think, will give everyone more of an insight into his acting capabilities, and save Daniel from bieng a typecast as Harry Potter for the rest of his life, which would be horrendous.

I'm probably going to get a lot of crap about what I have to say, but it needs to be said. It is NEVER acceptable for nudity to be public. It's not moral or modest. Not to mention the idea of a play that involves a sexual fixation on a horse. That is so wrong. Yes I have never read the play nor do I ever intend to. I think it is wrong for anyone...not just young actors and actress to play nude or sexual scenes. Those pictures of Dan made me gag. It makes me sad that he had to prove himself as an actor in that way.

Oh Laura Mallory, I didn't know you had an HPANA account... strange. Only I'm guessing your an uptight American woman in her 40s with kids. Your probably a Christian and think that nudity is wrong no matter what. (and no I haven't looked at your profile, I just guessing, you type are all alike)

Don't you remember, you AND your kids were all born nude. In fact, you probably take a shower nude too! Not to mention, you may even have had sex nude... Strange how much of your life you've been nude.

Now why is "public nudity" immoral and wrong. It's just the body as God created it. It's not actually public anyways, he's in a play, that you have to pay good money to see. It's in a building, not outside. So it's not really public... it's actually privite, only for those who have paid to see the play.

These pictures aren't even nude pictures, they're just really shirtless...

So have you ever considered the idea that this play is a magnificent work of art that happens to involve nudity and sexuality that is crucial to the play. He's not proving himself as an actor by taking off his clothes, he's proving himself by taking on theatre and an immensely difficult role.

And lastly, what exactly is gonna happen to Dan for doing something "immoral" like doing "public nudity"? Is he gonna explode, will God hate him, will he go to pergatory or just straight to hell?

But you should ask yourself this question, what's gonna happen to your kids who you've no doubt taught everything you know. Are they gonna get involved in drugs and pornography, not because they think it's great, but mostly because they were taught it's "immoral" and not actually given any reason why. Will they rebel against everything you've ever taught them, because on one hand you tell them sex before marriage is wrong, which scientific studies show, that saving yourself before marriage, isn't that bad of an idea.... but on the other hand you've freaked out that they might see some guy with his shirt off in some picture... is that really that wrong.... really.

You are right on one thing, you've gotten a lot or crap for what you said. I know you'll ignore everything i've said but please take at least one thing away with you, remember, you don't have to see this play unless you go to england and pay to watch it, so don't judge those people who do want to see it

ThePrinceofSpinnersEnd,
You got me...yes I am a Christian and a mother. But I'm only 28. I have nothing wrong with nudity...only when it is in the public eye. I didn't say that being nude was immoral. I just said the displaying it to the world is. I know you are going to say that it is a play that you have to pay money so you can see it. But, those pictures were displayed to the world (without a disclaimer). Not all of the pictures were of Dan just in jeans. You could obviously tell he was naked...even if it didn't show it all (it was close enough). Not to mention the pictures with the mostly nude girl.

As for me telling my children that things are immoral and not giving reasons, how ignorant do you think I am. Of course they get reasons and ways to backup those reasons.

As for scientific proof of having sex before marriage I would like to see that. All the proof I see is of it leading to multiple partners and that leading to increases in STDs and AIDs. Not to mention teen pregnancy. Personally, there is something special knowing that you and your spouse have never known anyone else sexually. But, you probably wouldn't understand that.

As for Dan posing nude and what will happen to him, that's between him and God.

Die Zimtzicke says:

Dan is not really Harry Potter. He's an actor playing a role, and no one should expect him to just play one role his whole career. I think the play will be great for him and I wish him all the best. My kids know the difference between Harry played by Dan and Alan played by Dan. I hope they would think it's stupid to have actors as role models anyway. Katharine Hepburn, who was one of the greatest actresses of all time had it right when she said: We're prostitutes. I've spent my life selling myself- my face, my body, the way I walk and talk. Actors say, "You can look at me, but you must pay me for it." That's how I feel, too, when it comes to making actors into role models. Actors in general were never meant to be role models as I see it. Save that for the ones who are really doing something to change the world.
