Update: Promotional images of Daniel Radcliffe from 'Equus'

New promotional images featuring Harry Potter actor Dan Radcliffe in his upcoming West End production of Equus are now available for fans.
Producer David Pugh says of Dan:
There was no hesitancy about taking off his clothes.
He has a confidence in his own appearance. With the performances that I've witnessed, when that boy takes his shirt off, Harry Potter has flown out of Hogwarts for good.
Equus, also starring fellow Potter actor Richard Griffiths, begins previews on February 16 and the official opening night is planned for February 27.
Please note that these photos contain quite a bit of bare skin, which has caused a fair bit of concern

According to English law, since dan is 17, these pictures are unlawful.

Protection of Children Act 1978 (England & Wales)
The law on images of child abuse is clear. It is an offence to take, permit to be taken, make, possess, show, distribute or advertise indecent images of children in the United Kingdom. The word indecent should be taken at its dictionary meaning; as a guide it means any images of children, apparently under 18 years of age, involved in sexual activity or posed to be sexually provocative.
Please note; it is against the law to actively seek out such images and doing so in order to report to the IWF would not be a defence in court.
Section 1 of this act, as amended by the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, creates various offences of taking or distributing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child under 18 years of age. It states:
1(1) It is an offence for a person -
To take, or permit to be taken, or to make any indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child; or to distribute or show such indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs; or to possess such indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs, with a view to their being distributed or shown by himself or others; or to publish or cause to be published any advertisement likely to be understood as conveying that the advertiser distributes or shows such indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs, or intends to do so.'
Section 160 of The Criminal Justice Act of 1988 made the simple possession of indecent photographs of children an offence. This is an Arrestable Offence carrying a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment.
Making an indecent image of a child is a Serious Arrestable Offence carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment.

I liked the pics, I think Dan looks so grown up, and sexy. But I also felt a little awkward, because... he´s only a child, no matter what good actor he may be.
Then again, don´t you think the producers of the play must have taken care not to break the law? There is probably a gap somewhere...

Dan is an actor, a young, talented one. He's not Harry Potter. He is real. Harry is not. Dan is the real role model because he cares for himself, has ambition and has a vision for his future. If this isn't a role model, I don't know what is. I put more stock in a flesh and blood person than someone who is part of the imagination of JKR and lives in a fairy tale world.
Yes I am am American and a Christian. The God I serve sees no wrong or evil in these pictures.
Bravo Dan. I support you all the way. I can't tell you how much pleasure I've had watching you grow up on screen and the friends I've made while doing it. I am going to see you knock them dead in Equus. Break a leg young man.

At first I thought that it wasn't ok because he is still doing the HP movies, but later on I realize that he is not going to be HP forever and may I say, This is a very good start!!

I would love to see Equus with Mr Radcliffe and Mr Griffiths! I hope that some fans of HP get to see it and report in. I think that it a wonderful play, and would love to see this Ms.Sarrock's adeptation, it seems sure to be a hit.

When I first heard of Dan doing Equus, the first thing I did was go to the library and borrow the play. Before I casted judgment on the play, I read it first.
While I understand some of the concerns regarding him doing the play, some should realize that Dan's character being naked is NOT what the story is about. There's more going on.
Someone said that he's not buff enough to be nude. The character he's playing is around that age and it wouldn't have mattered story wise if the character was fat and chubby. For the most part he's not nude because he's buff, he's nude because Alan is one letter short of the alphabet. Honestly, if the play goes according to the version I read, there is honestly nothing sexy about those nudity scenes.
If Dan portrays the character properly and if the audience is mentally mature, than when those scenes occur; they should be more pre-occupied with the circumstances surrounding the scenes with the nudity than with the actually nudity itself.
I'm not for or against it, I'm actually rather neutral about it. But, I did what I would suspect any HP reader (who is well aware of how it is to hear of someone judging HP saying it's witchcraft WITHOUT having read the books) to read (at least the older ones) the play than judge.
I do have one thing to say against the promotion of the play. Because I've read it and I know that it's about more than nudity, it is kind of messed up that that seems to be the selling point of the producers. How about a scene between Alan and the doctor (since they spend most of the time playing off each other?) I guess controversy sells.
Anyway, all of this coming from a self professed, uber-Rupert fan. To each his own and break a leg, Dan.....

I think there is deffinately over reacting happening here. Dan looks like he is ready to take on this character, just look at the expression on his face in the pictures. I read Equus and the role is hard to play, but Dan looks like he is ready to do it.

Posing naked in one of your first productions outside a world-known kids/teen movie is just insane! Especially when he's still making the Harry Potter series! Not in the U.K. I live in the U.K. and the age of consent is 16... besides, what's so wrong with it, Dan has been an adult (in the biological sense) for years. I think it's stupid that so many people think you have to be a certain age to be an adult. I know plenty of 28 year olds who are practically children, I also know a 15 year old who is wiser than most "adults". Dan is hot, he's a sexual being and i'd put money on the idea that he's probaby already had sex before. He is obviously concenting to these photos and this play. American law doesn't apply to photos taken in the U.K.... sorry.
