New promotional images featuring Harry Potter actor Dan Radcliffe in his upcoming West End production of Equus are now available for fans.
Producer David Pugh says of Dan:
There was no hesitancy about taking off his clothes.
He has a confidence in his own appearance. With the performances that I've witnessed, when that boy takes his shirt off, Harry Potter has flown out of Hogwarts for good.
Equus, also starring fellow Potter actor Richard Griffiths, begins previews on February 16 and the official opening night is planned for February 27.
Please note that these photos contain quite a bit of bare skin, which has caused a fair bit of concern

Um.... Personaly I have no respect for that at all. Sure it may be helping his career, but honestly I don't want to see it. It's stuff like this that has parents banning the kids from reading and expiriencing the wondeful world of Harry Potter. And the fact that it's revolving around a sexual fasination of horses makes it even more... uck!!
I'm sorry if you disagree but I don't like it at all.

....uh...duh...bleh... Oh, sorry, I lost my train of thought. Um... yeah, looks like a good play. I wish I lived in England so I could go see it. I'd be in the front row, napkin at the ready to catch the drool!
Seriously, though, when Dan pulls this off and the first reviews come out, nobody will ever see Dan as just Harry Potter. This is going to do wonders for his career. Good luck, Dan!!

Sorry for the double post, but I just thought about something. The parents of kids are so worried about Dan being a role model and blah blah blah. He is 17 years old, soon to be 18. He is at that age where there are...urges and needs and things of that sort. A 5 year old doesn't need to see this play. It is up to the parents to censor their own children. Dan is not their child, so what he does is none of their business. Dan is not doing a nude scene as Harry Potter, so it shouldn't matter to them. Jeeze. People get so hopped up about every little thing. Learn to keep your big fat schnoz out of other people's business!! Thanks!!

Yuck... Only preteen girls find these photos about this preteen boy interesting or amazing or whatever... This is bad. I wouldn't want to see my son in such a way at such an age.. would you?? He makes himself ridiculous! He is so underdeveloped, few little muscles, little hair, very skinny and bony..these are pictures of a child, who wants to show the world that hey, look, I finally managed to grow hair here and there on my body...........

The number of posts for this topic speaks for itself. I laughed when I read the interview of the play'd director. She said, "Oh my God" when she saw him. I had pretty much the same reaction. He's not a little boy any more, and he looks fantastic!

And more importantly, where was I???? I certainly did not see that in the Harry Potter movies!! Now I really wanna go to London and see the play! Hmmmm...I wonder what Rupert Grint looks like under his Hogwarts robes...

I am a theatre person. My major is theatrical education and I belive that Dan has a right just as everyone of us to do what he wants. Theres no doubt that we all have to grow up in some way form or fashion and this play is an easy emotional way to shed the Harry Potter skin for a short period of time. When an actor or actress is pationate about what they do, they grow not just personally but internally. We all get old and we all have goals and dreams we want to accomplish.
All I can say is bravo to Dan for not only going out a limb and trying something new, but for embracing the inner actor, for doing something he loves, even if the role includes a shed of clothing.
(Not to mention those pics are extremly nice if you know what I mean)

woah...well if this is what Dan wants to do then we as fans should support him 100%. I hear the nudity is just maybe about 5 minutes if even that long. I guess these are just here to try to attract people to see the play. I am happy for him, though, that as a teenager he's comfortable in his own skin. He should be very proud of all his achievements as far as acting goes.

Dan Radcliff is the epitmy of a skank, so what if people think it will better his career, only if he wants fans & critics of strange sadist/British boy toys to like him. I don't care if 'Equus' was a great Greek masterpiece, the Greeks were really messed up, even the famous story of Oedipus was hit by ancient critics, and that is a fascinating story. 'Equus' is a twisted story about a young boy who gets his jollys from hurting horses, and ie the nudity takes away from the plot, even if it isn't the central theme, believe me thats what will be getting all the attention and what people will be paying talking about. People will feel interest in the actor, good boy Dan Radcliff taking it all of for a mediocre play! He disgraces the name of Harry Potter and J.K. Rowlings wonderful books, the character is supposed to be symbolic of good, he follows the hero's journey blow by blow and he should have given the masterpiece his full attention before he made a crude statement about the parts he's willing to take. In short i think if he wanted to do a play like that, he should have waited respectfully until the films were done, because now people will associate the cinematic Harry Potter with nude shots of Dan Radcliff riding a horse! I mean come on Dan keep those pants on!

For those with a problem with these images.
I'd like to mention that the main poster for Equus is actually extremely well done. There is nothing whatsoever sexually suggestive about it. Dan's head and top of his torso merges into the shape of a horse's head. It requires a double-take to see what it really is. I think that's subtle and is representative of the play's true theme and very powerful as a poster.
Also, it isn't even plastered all over London (where I work, and I arrive in the middle of the theatre district).
For those worried about the smaller HP fans dying of fright: You can't even tell it's Dan!
This is a small play in one single city. It's only the mass hysteria that has made it seem global. There was NO need for children (HP fans or otherwise) to even be made AWARE of this play. It's the parents' responsibility to censor them.
Fiji
Are you aware that JK Rowling, author of the wholesome Harry Potter books, has actually been to see this play?
Also that she is the one said to have steered him towards the role?
Your talk of nudity not being central to the play suggests that you haven't even read the basics about it (and what's all that rubbish you wrote about Greek play's???? it's not Greek!).
"believe me thats [nudity] what will be getting all the attention..."
yes, well it does seem to be what you're focusing on but that's neither the fault of the play nor of Dan. It's been caused by the Tabloid media hysteria. Shame on anyone who blindly follows it. Unfortunately most people, it seems, haven't the intelligence to do otherwise.
fortunatus vita
I don't personally have a problem with Dan's age as the character is also meant to be 17 and Dan is nearly 18. I don't have a problem with the images themselves.
Where I do see your point is regarding the publicity. (This would be true whatever the actor's age). I have a cynical view of the publicists' use of some of these images, the photographs intended (I assume) for the media. I think that they deliberately played up Dan's nudity to get major media attention, which they knew they would get because it happens to be Dan playing the role. That's what I don't like.
But I have one negative question.
If you are so against what you call underage nudity, why on earth did you continue to look at the pictures? More importantly, why did you do this in front of your 13 year old son if your belief is that they are inappropriate?

haha, people take themselves so seriously, my prior comment was just some random babble to entertain myself with! If you get some kind of satisfaction Anne1 with refuting my comments i don't care, there is no need to prove superiority of knowledge and judge intelligence from one comment about a topic that literally holds no importance, people will do what they want to do, and that play will make it's mark however insignificant and people will move on and forget it, because thats the way everything works! NOTHING LASTS. I'm really surprised at people, come on this site wasn't created for people to let out there bitter frustration toward people they find annoying or incompetent, let it be. This is about Harry Potter (a book) so if you have nothing better to do and you take this completely seriously i'm sorry to have offended you with my hasty and uninformed remark.
ps. get a bit of comitas it's good for the soul.
