Phone helpline being set up for fans in UK Popular (8645)

British book chain, Waterstone’s, will be setting up a phone helplineopens in new window for fans to deal with the fact that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the last book in the series and that two characters are said to be killed off.

Back in June when Ms. Rowling appearedopens in new window on the 'Richard & Judy Show' in the UK and mentioned that "two more people have died than she originally planned and one other person has got a reprieve."

Debbie Williams of Waterstone's said:

This could be a similar moment to when Take That spilt up – there could be a lot of upset teenagers out there. We are looking to set up a helpline for them.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be published on July 21st.

Thanks to everyone who emailed.

I'm sorry, but while I will be temporarily upset over some of the deaths in the book I'm sure, people need to get a grip-this characters don't actually exist!!!! It's just a powerful and entertaining story.

My first reaction was oh my god, this is the most ridiculous idea I have ever heard. Then I thought about it as I was about to leave my comment and realized that I am quite attached to the books. THough I may not be crazy enough to need psychological help when the series is over, that some people are even may attached than I am, and some people handle things differently or may already be going through a hard time. So even though we laugh, it actually seems like a decent idea. Though couldn't soemone just go talk to a regular counsoler or pshychologist? It just sounds like they are preying on Potter fans once again.

Is there really people that would desperately need conseling after a charater dies? I mean its ok to be sad I guess, but to the point of having to set up a helpline? What can be worse than Dumbledore's death in book 6 anyways, I don't think any of the 3 main characters will die...but who really knows...

Sounds funny but I wouldn't be surprised if I turned out to need it, if I ever get to read the book... Ha!

As amazing as it sounds, SOME PEOPLE DON'T THINK THIS SERIES IS FICTIONAL. THEY WANT IT TO BE REAL. THEY NEED IT TO BE REAL, BECAUSE IF THERE IS NO HARRY, THE WORLD MEANS NOTHING!

End of rant... take it easy, guys!

I wonder what approach the counselors will take. Are they going to try to get people to move on and remember that it's just a story, or will they act like the caller really suffered the loss of a loved one? Will it be "make-believe" therapy or real therapy? If it's real, I think it's a good idea. Judging by most HP forums, some fans should have gotten help a long time ago.

I'm sorry, but I find this funny. I mean, I did tell my family, "You know what happens in July? The end of the world." It is sad; it is depressing after years of non-stop Harry Potter mania, that it is all going to be over. But a phone helpline is funny. I would never believe one would be set up to help people get over the shock of the book and what happens in it. I guess some people need some one to rant to or talk about it to, but isn't that what friends are for? ^_^

If someone is SO upset by the fact that a book series is ending that they feel the need to call a help line....they probably need more help than a phone call can offer.

I can't actually believe that would be necessary. I know I will be sad if any of my favorite characters die. I actually cried quite a bit in HBP when a certain character died. But to actually need help, not at all. I, just like everybody else got over it, and will get over anybody else dying even if it is Harry.

Ok...um...isn't this a bit much? I guess it could be traumatic but don't you think we will just talk to each other about the issues with the book's ending? When I was a teen I called my friends about things that really upset me or shocked me. I never would have called a crisis line about it. We have a local crisis line. I doubt anyone calls it about HPDH though. Maybe I will...nah!

Next thing you know some crazy folks will be petitionning for DH to be cancelled because it could show their kids that people can die...

Wow... sort of drastic, eh? I don't htink nessacerily that a helpline would really do much, seeing as you would have to be morally pathetic to truly disperse of any self-preservation under the circumstances of major deaths... even if it is THE BEST BOOK INT HE WORLD! regardless, i hope that it isnt harry, i myself will bbe mourning throughout the entire book; to think, it is only two additional deaths, perhaps there aer more but the others were planned? we know that the death of either voldy, harry, or both was inevitable; who could the other deaths be of?
