British book chain, Waterstone’s, will be setting up a phone helpline
for fans to deal with the fact that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the last book in the series and that two characters are said to be killed off.
Back in June when Ms. Rowling appeared
on the 'Richard & Judy Show' in the UK and mentioned that "two more people have died than she originally planned and one other person has got a reprieve."
Debbie Williams of Waterstone's said:
This could be a similar moment to when Take That spilt up – there could be a lot of upset teenagers out there. We are looking to set up a helpline for them.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be published on July 21st.
Thanks to everyone who emailed.

That's a good idea!!! I was thinking of doing that, depending on how traumatising the book is... Ooh, first to comment??? I think I really should go back to research...

This is so funny...In my country, phones lines are usually set up to deal with pre exam and post result scenario..!
I know that a lot of deaths mean a lot of broken hearts but well, one's gotta take it!

Hmmmm...I think it is a good idea, even if it does seem a bit strange (well I don't think that it is but I can understand how others could...a helpline for teenagers because of a book series ending!). I personally don't think I'd be phoning it...but I'm sure there will be some extreme fans out there who will be very upset at the end of this much-loved series, and if their favourite character dies or something, that will make them feel terrible! I might have to call it if Lupin dies though!...which I don't think he will cos JKR couldn't possibly be so cruel, could she?? :S

As much of a tremendous fan I am of Harry Potter, IT'S NOT REAL. I find it a bit ridiculous that they are making a helpline for fictional characters that are going to be killed.

This kind of cracks me up even though it's a pretty nifty idea....I for one will be in tears at the end of DH and will probably need physical therapy and months of counceling; one because it's the last book, and two for those who will die. OH gosh, I start to feel sick just thinking about it...I'm so siked!!!::::))))

That is sooo funny! A helpline to help people cope with the death of non-real characters?!
Next thing you know some crazy folks will be petitionning for DH to be cancelled because it could show their kids that people can die...

master_HP_mugwump, people don't get upset because they think its real; its because they get emotionally involved in the story. The difference between you (or me) and the people who might call in, is one of degree rather than kind.

We will have to see if all those people die and/or get a reprieve. The story was not done at the time so we will not really know unless she reaffirms or we read it ourselves.

There are many news reports saying that two popular characters will be killed off, but that is not exactly what Jo said.
She said two would be killed off, who she had originally planned to survive. This means that more than two could be bumped off. Also one character has had a reprise.

Ok... I like the books too, and it's sad to think that there won't be anymore books after the last one, but if you need to call a help line when the books are finished you might have a WEEEE bit of a obsessive problem.

Oh, geez. A help-line for a story - how silly! But the truly sad part is that there will probably be people who will call in. :S

I'm not sure what to think about that.
It's amazing that Harry Potter has had such an impact they're setting up phones, but then it's also kind of funny.

That's very...interesting...sure, I'll be upset when it's all over and if a main character dies that I care about, but hopefully I'll be able to pull myself together and not have to seek medical attention!

I think that's really stupid to set up a help line for some fictional characters. I love HP but to set something like that up is funny and ridiculous.
Yeah, it's the last book of the series but HP won't last forever and people will get over it in time.
Whoever thought this up is completely mental.

This is kind of funny...but it's also sad that they think we are unable to cope with the death of fictional characters no matter how much we enjoy the books. I personally know I'll be upset when a character dies as I have been in the past but have managed to cope fine without the help of complete strangers on a helpline =D

It sounds kind of funny when you hear it, but then again if you take a step back and actually see the impact Harry Potter has made on some people's lives, it will be hard to believe it's over. I know for me it is something that i've loved having around for many many years now, and it will be sad to see the story line at an end. But I know that I personally definately do not need help to get over it ;). But i still will cry when it's all over :(.

Ummm... Isn't that a bit much? I love HP and all the characters, but I still remember that it's a FICTIONAL STORY. Do they seriously think that people will need help grieving? That's so silly to me. It's stuff like this that encourages people to claim that HP has mind influencing stuff in it.

I think the idea is ok, but frankly, it's a little too much. no matter how awesome or great or fantastic and incredible the book is, it doesn't stop being fiction. We should take it so deep to the heart.
