According to a lawyer for JK Rowling there are currently no plans for an e-book version
of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to be published on July 21, 2007.
Ms. Rowling has previously stated
on her web site that only authorized versions of her books are available via print or audio and this helps with the "growing incidents of piracy."
You may remember that in January 2005 we mentioned
a site that was offering electronic versions of all six Harry Potter books, the sixth months before it was even published, so please be aware of sites that offer e-book versions of the series -- they don't exist.

Good. E-books would take half the magic. Of course there are people who will be scammed into anything. Here's hoping it doesn't work.

Good thing. I want no spoiler, no rumor, no troll of any kind... Or any temptation/risk/nothing-of-the-sort.
And anyway, the reading marathon will be bad enough for our eyes (^^) without thinking about ruining them with a screen!!!

I wonder if JKR will authorize ebook versions after plenty of time has passed after the release of Book 7? Piracy won't be as big of an issue then, and it would enable all the people who have the books to buy the ebooks and carry them around on a palm device or laptop.

That's good to know, besides, why get an e-book version if a book is still much better!

Yeah, reproduction would be way to easy with and e-book. I wouln't want one anyway. It's not good for your eyes to be staring at a screen for that long, and it would be way more expensive to print it. Plus any true fan would want to have a real copy, thats just the way we are!

Good then
Why would you want to read something on the internet?
It is so much better to have the actual thing in front of you. Books are meant to be in pages not online. Too much technology is ruining books

Well, that is good to know. I wouldn't want to read an e-book anyway. I really can't see the point. I would rather sit down with the real thing.

I don't like E - books..... I'm happy JKR isn't going to have her series on them...
Plus it will slow down the piracy....

Some people stop at nothing to get some money...
But I really don't understand how people can read a book from the screen if the book is up to eight hundred or more pages long. Amazing

I guess I'm out of the loop -- I didn't even know that there were HP e-books! It doesn't really matter to me, though. I want a good solid hardback book that I can curl up on my window seat with.
I completely understand not putting Deathly Hallows out in that format. The way things are going, people would have it downloaded and shipped around the world before the July 22.

I love reading online but I think part of the fun of a new bookis to be able to curl up and read it or take it with you to the beach or something. Not siting with a computer. Imagine if your laptop died at an exciting part of the story, that would be awful!
Plus, it would be pirated and that is not fair to JK or the publishers.

I seriously don't know how someone can read a whole book off the computer either. You'd give yourself a headache and hurt your eyes if you looked at the screen for that amount of time.

I completely agree with Jo on this subject. I think it's a very good idea for her not to publish her work in e-book form. This leaves plenty of room for piracy. Also, there are so many children today who don't seem to be able to appreciate the wonders of picking up and reading a good book. Too many kids today practically live on the computer, in front of the tv, and by playing their video games. Children should be able to pick up a book, and read it outside, not while plopped in front of a computer screen.

I think this is a good idea. If you want to read DH, read it after its release! JKR deserves to be left well enough alone on the matter of e-books.

Woah. I think it's a good thing that they're not available online because it's almost like stealing, unless you're ordering online. Personally I like the printed version because first, you're not stealing and second, reading a book on screen is too long.

Excellent - this is good. I hate to see it when people take advantage of the Harry Potter books and use it for their own benefit - illegally. Then again, it's always good to just read it on paper or listen to it if you're blind. I mean, come on.

Oh, eBook versions exist. Book 6 was out in PDF form 6 hours after the worldwide release of the book. I should know because on the day book 6 was released, while my British adult hardcover was being shipped to America, I was in Japan reading the book on my laptop.
Some guys with scanners scanned parts of their copies, converted the scans to text, and merged their text together. I don't know how many people worked together on it; although what they did was illegal, that's still really amazing that they can digitize a 700-page novel in 6 hours!
