As we previously mentioned the soundtrack from the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie will be released on July 10. We now have additional news letting us know that the soundtrack will not include songs from the movie, but will be a score-only release.
According to the article
(page 8):
Warner Bros. Records will release the original soundtrack from the new Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, on July 10. The album presents the original score composed by Nicholas Hooper, who was hired to score the film at the insistence of director David Yates, whose working relationship with the composer dates back to the early 1990s. The recording of the score began in London at Abbey Road Studios on March 19 and the orchestral sessions will continue next week.
You can order
the soundtrack now online.
Thanks to Matthew for the tip.

I don't get it. So is it going to be songs sung by singers or just a soundtrack?

I will have to look online for this. It sounds really good. I have always loved the music from the movies. It is really calming but also so exciting. It always takes me back to the excited feeling you get when you watch these films!

Cool, love the scores. Probably be a lot darker. Wonder what they'll play for when Sirius goes through the Veil, or if they even play music for that bit at all (to make the scene unique)

What is the difference between songs from the movie and the score only? How can we distinguish between them? I'm just ignorant. Sorry!
Anyways, regardless, I am certain that the soundtrack will turn out to be spectacular.

I guess I never thought otherwise. I have the soundtrack from the first movie and that's just a score, too. Which I like. I really enjoy the scores - it's like an emotional embibement (is that a word?) of the movie.

Um...QUESTION....Movie soundtrack without songs from the movie??? Ummm....yeah. Okay. That would just make it a soundtrack, or in other words...just another CD that has nothing to do with the movie.

I really love soundtracks. They're always so powerful, and they always differ slightly in the HP films, giving each individual film it's own theme.

FizzingWhizbeez says:
master_HP_Mugwump, the score is the music that plays in the background during the movie. So, it does have everything to do with the movie, but if there is an actual song in the movie - like the choir singing "Something Wicked This Way Comes" or the Weird Sisters performing at the Yule Ball, those things wouldn't be included in the score. But try watching a movie with no score music behind it; you'll be wondering why it's so dull - all of the emotion of the scene is contained in the score.

"What is the difference between songs from the movie and the score only?"
The songs are music with lyrics sung by an artist, a score is the underlying music in the film that does not have a popular artist singing it. Mostly it's performed by an orchestra to help elevate the mood or emotion of a scene.
People, the music in the movie will mostly be the underscore -- so it is an original motion picture soundtrack in that it features music from the movie in it.
Score releases of "The Lord of the Rings" are branded as original motion picture soundtracks, so the OOTP soundtrack shouldn't be any different.

Oh, yes, I am most certainly getting the soundtrack the day it comes out. We have all of the soundtracks and listen to them often. I'm a bit confused by the way this story was reported as well....aside from the last soundtrack (unless you want to count the "something wicked this way comes" Frog Chorus from PoA), none of the others have had "songs" so I wasn't expecting this one to have any either. So, are there going to be songs in OotP or not? I'm happy enough with the score, but now you've got me curious.
Hey, cool that Hooper recorded at Abbey Road Studios!

Alright, cool. It's being done at Abbey Road, that's awesome!!! I love the HP music - Hopefully Hooper will keep in Hedwig's Theme. Once the OotP soundtrack comes out, I will finally abandon my Killers albums and listen to that for a while.

I can't wait for this soundtrack. I love them... and HP is what got me into film scores in the first place. I'd like to hear some of Hooper's other compositions. Hopefully he does as good a job as John Williams and Patrick Doyle did. :)
