According to a press release
this morning, IMAX will be transforming approximately 20 minutes at the end of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix from 2D to 3D.
Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures said:
We are so pleased to be bringing audiences yet another outstanding Harry Potter film to the big screen in both 35mm and IMAX theaters. This is the Studio's biggest franchise to date, and we expect this highly-anticipated fifth film to play phenomenally well in all theaters throughout the summer.
Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, President of Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures International added:
The Harry Potter films are an enormous draw all over the world, and this film should prove to be no different. The last 20 minutes in IMAX 3D will add a new element of excitement to the Harry Potter experience, making this a must-see for fans of all ages. We're looking forward to a long and very successful run.
The movie will be released
in IMAX and conventional theatres on July 13, 2007.
UPDATE: A new poster from the movie from IMAX has appeared

It sounds good to all of us but i really don't see the pointin transfering it to 3D for 20 to 30 minutes of the film why not just transfer it all over to the imax an make itall in 3D.

At first I was wondering what the point of only making the last 20 minutes 3D, but the more I think about it, the more I think that this was actually a pretty good idea. Watching a movie in 3D, while cool, usually gives me a headache. It'll be nice to enjoy just 20 minutes of 3D action but be able to watch the majority of the movie "normally." After seeing Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3D (the entire movie) I said never again! So I think this is a pretty good decision on their part.

Wow, I knew it would be at a Imax but to have part in 3D is going to be great. It will be worth the extra time to get there.

Well, how wonderful is this! It would be awesome to see any of the film in IMAX, this is a great idea and I can't wait to see it. Ahhh, I love IMAX theaters, always have so, you really can imagine you're there. I will not miss this opportunity, its as close as I'll ever get to being in a HP movie. *laughs*

The closest IMAX to me is in Chicago. I don't understand why only the last 20 min. would be in 3-D. Could you imagine the whole movie in 3-D AND on an IMAX screen???? WHEW.......................mind blowing.......!!!!

How exciting. I will definately want to see it with the 3D, but I don't know if I want to see it that way first or second. I think second, so that it won't be so disruptive the first time I see it.

Aaaagh that is so cool but I don't have an IMAX theatre near me! I don't think there are any in the UK, apart from the IMAX cinema in the Science Museum in London but that doesn't show films that are released in cinemas, they show their own ones that are sort of educational documentary type things. That is such a shame I can't see it...I wonder if they'd ever somehow put in on a special edition DVD?

We have an IMAX near us at the science center but they usually don't show regular movies. If they did I couldn't go anyway. I get motion sickness and IMAX triggers it. Can't enjoy a movie if you feel like harfing the whole time. I will stick with digital at the local theater.

its going to be so cool to see a Harry Potter movie in 3D! I have always wanted to see one in 3D, the 4th one would be amazing to see.
I wonder how they are going to do just the last 20 mins? and if they are going to give you 3D glasses.
I hope the IMAX by me does this!

I have a question though, can the 3D effect be seen in a conventional theatre as well? Or you need to go to an IMAX theatre?
