As first reported
by Deadline Hollywood Daily, advanced discussions are taking place for an elaborate Harry Potter-themed adventure park somewhere on Universal's Orlando property.
The Scotsman reported
Sunday that a former executive revealed detailed plans of the project, worth an estimated $500 million:
Rowling is believed to have been in negotiations with Universal Studios since 2005 over potential sites and the park's contents. Earlier talks with Disney, which has a Disneyworld in Orlando, are understood to have fallen through because the giant American leisure corporation wanted total control of the project.
Indeed, Rowling's camp later denied a link with Disney.
UPDATE: While this rumor has existed in some form since as early as 2003, HPANA can now independently confirm that such a project is in discussions. Universal and Warner Bros. declined to comment, however JK Rowling's representatives confirmed to HPANA that the author has been in talks with Warner Bros. about a themed attraction for "several" years. There is nothing to announce officially at this point, however.

The possibilities are endless as to what can be created for a Harry Potter World. With the technology that science has at it's fingertips I'm sure it will outshine any of the existing parks that we now have. Long live the Hogwarts and the universe it lives in.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

This sounds so cool. I am so excited about this. I would love to go. And Florida is pretty close to me, so it might actually happen. I am sure this would not be for a couple of years but it sounds so great.

I would rather see a 3-d game or virtual reality simulation that could be in a lot of places. Cool, play Quidditch, ride a Hypogriff, etc. Definite market there.

So I guess they really are serious about it this time. That's a relief, I don't want to get my hopes up for no reason.

I'm so glad that JK Rowling said no to Disney - they would have wanted full control and "ownership" of Harry Potter and would have ruined it.
I hope that any theme park planned is worthy of the Harry Potter name - that it's true to the theme and not just rubbishy merchandising!

This would be cool for a HP theme park! We're visiting Disneyworld this summer, but when the kids are older we will probably go to Universal. Maybe by then they will have the HP park!

If Universal actually builds the Harry Potter park I will trade my Disney annual pass for a Universal annual pass. Actually, I would probably just downgrade the Disney but I would definitely get another Universal pass.
It would be wonderful to have a whole sections of either park dedicated to Harry and his adventures. I wonder does this mean that Harry lives through book 7? Harry's death might put a twist in a few knickers and affect attendance.

Yokata says:
Personally, I am very sceptical of any theme park based on Harry Potter that any theme park may develop. Although it is assured that such a park would prosper financially, I am afraid that any park of the sort would reduce the content of our cherished books into some kind of cheesiness. It is with much trepidation that I imagine what such a park would look like. Creating one that will truly please the Harry Potter fans and not prove to be an embarrassment is going to be a task that is not easy.
