As first reported
by Deadline Hollywood Daily, advanced discussions are taking place for an elaborate Harry Potter-themed adventure park somewhere on Universal's Orlando property.
The Scotsman reported Sunday that a former executive revealed detailed plans of the project, worth an estimated $500 million:
Rowling is believed to have been in negotiations with Universal Studios since 2005 over potential sites and the park's contents. Earlier talks with Disney, which has a Disneyworld in Orlando, are understood to have fallen through because the giant American leisure corporation wanted total control of the project.
Indeed, Rowling's camp later denied a link with Disney.
UPDATE: While this rumor has existed in some form since as early as 2003, HPANA can now independently confirm that such a project is in discussions. Universal and Warner Bros. declined to comment, however JK Rowling's representatives confirmed to HPANA that the author has been in talks with Warner Bros. about a themed attraction for "several" years. There is nothing to announce officially at this point, however.

Hmm. I'm not sure this is a good idea. I'm sure lots of people would go, but I have this feeling that it would ruin Harry Potter for me if I went. I think Harry Potter is one of those things that shouldn't be overdone. Some things have just been done to death, and it takes something away from them. I'm just afraid this will happen to Harry Potter if a theme park is developed.
Of course I could be totally wrong and it could be amazing... I'm just not sure. =P

That's cool. I personally am a big disney fan so I wish that it could have been part of disney. I got excited when I saw HP books being sold at the Tower of Terror at MGM Studios. But, if it has to be Universal I can live with that too.

As great as this theme park would be, i can't help but feel as though the UK has been denied something that should belong to it!!!
I mean sure, build one out there, but the MAIN one should be in the UK! I'm sure, like many British fans, if this goes ahead and is NOT in the UK, i couldn't help being a miffed at JK for having this in the states!

I can't say I am necessarily thrilled by the idea that Universal Studios may construct a theme park based on our beloved books; while I would immensely enjoy immersing myself in actual sets and rides deriving from concepts established in the series, I fear that the developers could very easily slip and cross the line into corniness. Universal Studios, I am mostly indifferent to the idea of a theme park about Harry Potter; on the one hand, it could be marvelous. On the other, it could be dreadful. Which it will become is going to be a very, very difficult problem to combat as they plan this place.

Plus then I wouldn't have to travel, and maybe I could work there! But I would totally travel to wherever they put it.

Not sure what I think- I would love to visit such a park, but the idea seems kind of odd at the same time. I hope they do end up completing this idea. I'm not surprised Disney wanted complete control; that's the way they are. If I were in one of these companies, I think it would probably be most lucrative to add only a HP ride instead of an entire theme park- Not sure if they can garner enough people for an entire park.

I think it might be a little cheesy, and if it goes to a done deal, I bet Disney is going to be wishing they'd grabbed it while they had the chance, could be a bit of a money maker. But it's like when I was in high school, The Simpsons were all the rage until it was TOO commercialized, and then it became dumb with all the *stuff* they had for sale. I don't want them to spoil the mystique of HP's world.
