The eponymous character in JK Rowling's record breaking Harry Potter series will live through the end of the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, say over 65,000 fans in HPANA's second quiz on the matter.
The informal poll, counting more than 100,000 unique yes or no "live/die" votes over the period of a year, revealed that a fairly even 60%/40% majority feel that Harry will not die in book 7.
HPANA conducted a similar poll in 2005 before the publication of the sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, that found a slim majority believed the character would be killed by the end of the series.

I remember the pool in 2005, I voted no and was surprised that a majority voted yes. Then later in 2005 or 2006 I read an article discussing the matter and found that there is a very slim chance of J.K. Rowling killing off Harry Potter, considering that she loves the character it would be pretty bad to kill something you love. There are advantages to killing Harry Potter though. Like the fact that another author cannot write another Harry Potter book after J.K. Rowling is done with the character, but I don't believe that she would do that.

I can't remember how I voted the first time around....I think I said he would die. This time around I voted that he'd live, mostly to squash the horrible feeling I have that he will die. I don't exactly think that JKR will have him killed off, but I can imagine a scenerio by which she would feel that she could make a real statement about the cost to "good" in the battle against "evil" by having Harry die as he is destroying Voldemort. Harry has to die in order to rid the world of Voldemort forever. I know I will be extremely surprised either way because I just can't convince myself that it'll turn out one way or the other for Harry.

i really HAVE to let myself believe that Joe WON'T kill Harry - even if it's only for the fact that she would probably be sufficated in hate-mail. So, I'm glad y'all agree w/ me me. i think, now that Harry understands what Dumbledore was always trying to tell him, he has a good chance. GO HARRY! WE BELIEVE IN YOU!!!

As for the poll, there are lots of reasons to vote (and think) one way or the other, but in this one, I didn't want any vagueness (hence just the "yes" or "no" responses available). I can't remember how I voted now, either!

I hope this poll is right and Harry does live. I think so many people (including myself) would be so disappointed if he did die. He has been through so much and everyone who has read these books has been through it with him and it really would be like losing a friend. harry has been an escape for many people and i just hope that he makes it through it all.
