With the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie set to be released in a few weeks, details are surfacing on an upcoming casting call and filming location for the Half-Blood Prince movie. We also hear from director David Yates, confirming, in person, that he will be directing the sixth movie.
Warner Bros. are looking for a teenage boy and girl to play the parts of Lavender Brown and Tom Riddle with auditions taking place at Earl's Court in London on July 1st and 8th. According to the press release for both characters people should be between 15-18 years of age and a resident of the UK or Ireland. You can read all the information for the auditions here
. Thanks to HPFZ
for that news.
Some filming for the movie will take place
at Lacock in Wiltshire, with scenes filmed in autumn. You may remember that scenes featuring the Abbey's cloisters were in the first two movies:
The crew are set to return in the autumn and this time the focus is on the parts of the village close to The Angel and Church Street and the Abbey Cloisters will be used if the weather is bad.
This morning I attended a press junket for the movie where director David Yates and producer David Heyman confirmed for all that Yates will be directing the next movie. You can hear a snippet of their comments here

Very cool! It's weird, I've always pictured Lavender in my mind, but now thinking about what she looks like, I can't tell you one thing about her!! So basically, she won't look anything like I think!
I wish they could have brought back Christian Coulsen for Tom Riddle. I know he couldn't do the very young scene at 11, but when Voldemort/TR comes back to ask for the teaching position, he could do that at least, as well as the Horcrux scene.

Sounds like a lot of fun for some lucky young people. Almost the last chance to be in the movies as a character. Not too many parts left to cast, unless there is a new character or two in the last book. Doubtful?

I am reserving judgement on Yates until after I have seen Phoenix.
As for the casting call and filming news on HBP, YEAH! That is so exciting.

Geri, I downloaded the Windows Media thingy. The extension says wmv (Windows Media Video) but actually it's an audio file. Shouldn't it be wma (Windows Media Audio)? It's just that I was a bit disappointed there's no picture. Sounds like it was recorded with a digital voice recorder from the audience.
(Maybe there's something wrong with my player but it seems too small to be a video file anyway so I don't think so...)

Geri says:
Juicybit -- It is just an audio file (no pics/video allowed to be taken) & it's WMV so that everyone can hear it - I just converted it.
Edit: -- I've converted it to a WMA file so no one else will think they are going to see a video.

Geri, sorry for bothering you, I just so much wanted to see a video... Got my hopes up when I saw the extension being wmv... May I ask why you had to convert it so that everyone can hear it? What's wrong with wma? I would think it can be played with more players as it's audio only...

I couldn't understand why they would recast the part of Tom Riddle until I checked the Harry Potter Lexicon and it stated that Christian Coulson who played Tom Riddle in Chamber of Secrets was "several years older than the maximum age for actors being sought for the part". He was born in 1978. That makes him 29 years now. I guess you can't have a 30 year old man playing a 16 year old boy. Besides they need to find an 11 year old Tom Riddle for the memory in the pensieve scenes with Harry and Dumbledore.

That's an interesting clip of David Yates and David Heyman. I wonder if this was from the main press conference they usually have in the U.K., with all the actors, directors, and producers. Does anyone remember how close to the film they held that for GOF?
I'm not too surprised that they are recasting Tom Riddle. By the time HBP is released it will have been 6 years since COS and I doubt that any regular movie goers will even notice it's a different Tom Riddle. If Christian Coulson was used they would probably take more notice of the fact that he looks so much older than 16. He would probably be needed for Sluggy's memory and if they keep the Hepzibah scene and the Morphin scene.
The description of Lavender sounds exactly as the character should be:
“Lavender is a pretty and lively girl who loves to be the centre of attention. She is determined to make Ron her boyfriend and when she gets him, she is then deeply possessive of him. She reacts in an extreme way to everything. She tends to be either laughing or crying hysterically."

tmmaoc -- The snippet is from the press conference which was held this morning in London which I attended. There will be more audio files featuring Dan, Emma & Rupert as well as more from David Heyman, David Yates & screenwriter Michael Goldenberg.

Christian Coulson doesn't actually look that old, besides actors often play younger than they are. He was a great Tom Riddle, and he's the only real Tom Riddle for me. The movies aren't that great anyway.

Very neat! I know that there have been at least two threads devoted to the idea of a Lavendar audition, and what she shoudl look like so it will be interesting to see who they finally choose, and if any one from HPANA makes it (for Tom Riddle of well of course)! That would be really awesome. Good luck to those who audtion.
As for Yates, the actors have given him good reviews, but I will have to wait for OOTP to decide for myself.

I guess the actor who played Tom Riddle in CoS is too old now, or unavailable? Because I thought he was perfect in the role.
I'm fine with David Yates directing HBP. Now if only they could get someone else like Peter O'Toole or Patrick Stewart to play Dumbledore!

I would love to just audition for the Tom Riddle role but it really is too bad they limit the auditions ton only those in the U.K.
Let's get some Canadians in there, I can pull off a British accent!

It's a shame that they cannot have the same person from CoS play Tom Riddle in HBP.
