The first review
for the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie has crossed the wires. The movie premiere today in Tokyo and the reviewer gives the movie three out of five stars.
The chief problem, though, is not really a fault of the film but the near universal Potter-literacy of its prospective audience. Most Potter fans are now laser-focused on the release of the climactic seventh book in three weeks' time and its promise to bring together the countless loose ends.
This editor would like to point out that my rating for the movie would not be so low and we at HPANA will post our reviews on July 11th.
UPDATE: Yet other reviews here
and here
of the movie have appeared online, which are much more favorable than the one above.
UPDATE: II: Here is a review from The Hollywood Reporter
and one from The Sun
from the UK.

The reviewer spent a whole paragraph whining about the fact that the world premiere was in TOKYO, and how Hollywood is pandering to the Japanese. I didn't read any MOVIE review. Sounds like someone skipped the movie and just "cobbled together" a quick something to appease his boss.

Well, I will of course just have to see it for myself. I don't usually go by any reviews I read. Especially when it concerns anything with Harry Potter.

3 out of 5 stars!!! What film was he watching? Well, obviously not everyone is a Harry Potter fan but this just seems a bit too low to me. I mean, just from what we have read and seen the movie seems incredible. Well, I will jusdge for myself what I think of it and I doubt I will give it a 3. I will most likely give it a five. I just do not appreciate the fact that it seems that many individuals try to downplay the series. However, to each his/her own. Can't wait for the film.
Accio July 11!!!

Thats a very interesting review. I think what he's saying is true. Too many of us are preoccupied with the 7th book and with this whole image we have with Harry Potter and how we think every movie is perfect.

Movie reviews are just one person's opinion. Just go see the movie and judge for yourself. And if you like it, tell your friends.

A three? Odd...I seriously doubt it deserved such a low rating. I usually don't agree with movie critiques so I'm sure I'll love it.

Critics don't mean anything. While this one gives a 3 out of 5, someone else could give a 4.5 out of 5. It really depends on your taste of movies. If you prefer dramatic movies over fantasy movies you wont give it a perfect score. Whereas us loyal fans, since we know how hard it is to turn an 800 page novel into a book, we will enjoy it no matter what.
But also, they have to remember that the whole cast can't please everyone. While someone may like that they took out Ron&Quidditch, others will not. It is really hard to make everyone happy...trust me.
Anyway; We all have our own oppinions.
Also, this movie is not about fun

I've always been a little disappointed with the movies. Only because they seem to leave so much out and change so much. Especially The Goblet Of Fire. But it's understandable that they can't put everything in the movies unless they made them like 6 hours long. But I still love to watch the books come to life.As for them saying they can't act I don't agree with that at all. I think they're great actors and are perfect for the part. I would be highly disappointed if they changed any of the actors.

"This actually makes me a bit hopeful. OotP isn't about fun or being "magical". It's about possession, anger, grief, self doubt. I would be really disappointed if this had too much "fun" in it."

No worries people! We will all get our opportunity to judge for ourselves in due time. *te-he-he* as a matter of fact, the tickets for the IMAX showing here in North Florida go on sale at midnight tonight!!!
Only here can I openly admit that I have another window open, on the ticket web site, ready to be refreshed at the stroke of midnight, to buy my tickets NOW!!!
What can I say? I'm an addict in the cupboard! :)

I really don't want to know what those critics think. Some are bias, but some are truthful. I really want to know how it is from a fans perspective, so I will await the Hpana review.

The second review was definitely favorable. The action and intensity of this film will be worth the wait.
The movie comes out the day after my child's 10th birthday - I get to treat him to a movie. :]

It is hard to read a review from someone in my opinion was looking to fault the movie at every chance they got. the 2nd review was much better. I can't wait to see OotP at our local IMAX. I have already secured our tickets. I thik the first reviewer wanted to make a grandstand since there are13 more days until we cna see and judge for oourselves.

Of the adult actors, Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge – Dumbledore’s usurper at Hogwarts – is exquisitely dislikeable. Does the reviewer mean the actress or the part?

The second reviewer painted a better picture for the movie. He seemed more interested in number, statistics, and gross profits than in the movie itself. I wish he would have said more about the movie.

Reviewers are rarely fans of the movies they review--and I have notice that they seem especially hard on sci-fi and fantasy films. So I like what I like and occasionally listen to reviews of friends
But, I agree with an earlier comment, the books are better than the movies. They have always had to leave stuff out. Overall, I think they have doe a good job on the film adaptations.
